Description

This is our permanent residence, located on the South Coast of NSW, about 3 hrs drive from Sydney International Airport. It is set on a headland overlooking the ocean, with views to Jervis Bay to the North, and Mollymook and Ulladulla to the south. It is within easy walking distance of Narrawallee Beach and only a few minutes drive from Mollymook Beach and Ulladulla township, also from the historic village of Milton. All but two of the accompanying photos were taken within walking distance of the house. It has four bedrooms with three queen size beds and two singles, bathrooms upstairs (incl. bath) and down, and a salt water swimming pool in the back yard.

Neighborhood

Mollymook is an extension of Ulladulla which is the main shopping precinct and built around a small fishing harbour (photo). The fishing here can be very good, with marlin off the Continental Shelf (20 miles out) in season, reef fishing all year. There are several charter boats at Ulladulla. The wild life is one of the atractions with whales (in season), seals, dolphins being common. There are many types of seabird, including ganets, albatros, sea eagles, penguins (penguins normally only sighted out to sea), shearwater etc as well as a wide range of parrots, finches etc etc. Kangaroos, wallabys etc can be found in quite large numbers in camping areas and national parks, of which there are several within a few km.
The climate here is generally mild, summer (dec - end Feb) can be hot and definitely beach weather. Autumn (Mar-May) and Spring (Sept - Nov) are arguably the best times of the year, the temperatures are more modest and the weather most settled. The sea can be swimmable through to the end of April (I'm a wimp), and again from the beginning of October. Winters are cool but normally ideal for beach- and bush-walking, eg to Pigeon House Mountain (30 km), The Castle etc in the Morton National Park and Budawang Mountains, or Meroo Beach in the Meroo National Park (15 km). Alternatively its a great spot to simply relax and read book.
Canberra is about 2.5 hrs drive distant, and like Sydney can be reached by public transport, but with some difficulty. There are several options for geting here from the airport, including a private airport express company (about $70 per person each way), or bus (one or two services each day, cost about $25/person each way), or hire car, available from the airport.

About Us

We are a retired couple, Judy is an ex primary school teacher and Jeff's background is in agricultural research-we retired to Mollymook for its tranquility after nearlly 30 years in Sydney (which is no longer tranquil) and for its natural attractions. We enjoy travelling and try to do at least one overseas trip each year as well as some travel within the country. We have two grandchildren living with their parents in London who we visit each year, hence this proposal. Our preference would be for a direct swap with a retired couple but we are open to suggestions. We have no pets and the garden is easy-care, but would need some assistance with the pool.

Destination

We have a son and his family living in Putney (SW15) and would like to find accommodation which is accessible to the area, though not necessarily in Putney. The dates are flexible; my wife and I are retired and able to organise our travel arrangements to suit others. Our intention is to stay in London for a period (say 3-4 weeks) followed by a further 2-3 weeks on the Continent. We may be accompanied by another couple so would be looking for accommodation for a minimum of four.
