Description

Our house is a 1927 solid red brick family home in the Surrey Hills. It has a large garden with 180 degree countryside views. Traditional furnishings (slightly battered!), but reasonably modern kitchen with electric range cooker, 2 fridges, freezer, washing machine, spin dryer, dishwasher, microwave.

The downstairs comprises: large kitchen/breakfast room with 2 sets of french doors opening onto the terrace to the east and south. Dining room, living room, sunroom, playroom/den, entrance hall, computer area and 2 toilets. Most of the rooms face south with lovely views.

Upstairs there is a double aspect master bedroom suite consisting of bedroom, dressing room and bathroom with shower. There are 4 other bedrooms (one with double and 3 with single beds), all with fabulous views. Also a landing and 2 other bathrooms (1 with shower).

Neighborhood

Within 5 minutes in the car (20 minutes walk) you are in the centre of Guildford. A busy town with multi-screen cinema, theatre, nightclubs, restaurants, fabulous shopping, etc. It is an old historic town with a pedestrianised, cobbled high street with little roads off it. Also ancient castle ruins, gardens and a lovely river running through it.

However, when you are at our house you feel as though you are in the heart of the country. We are on a hill, set back from a narrow little lane, and can only see a couple of other houses and a farm further down so it is very quiet and peaceful. We are surrounded by fields, and have a wonderful view of over cows, hills and trees, stretching into the far distance at either end of the valley. There are masses of fabulous walks, and The North Downs Way (a national walking/cycling route) runs nearby.

London is about 37 minutes train ride away from Guildford station, which is about 15 minutes in the car. So it is easily accessable to enjoy all the sights, museums, theatres, etc. while staying in a lovely out-of-town location.

We are also quite near to the south coast, Stonehenge, Hampton Court, Windsor Castle, Winchester, the New Forest, the north and south downs, Wimbledon, Brighton, Chessington World of Adventures, Thorpe Park, Legoland - lots of day trips to suit all tastes!

About Us

We are a family of 5. Father (Bobby), mother (Vivien), Katrina (university student 18), Emily (14) and Lucy (9).

Bobby is a Management Consultant who loves walking, golf and playing tennis. Vivien enjoys reading and shopping, as do the girls! We also all enjoy new places, sightseeing, swimming, sunbathing, eating out and spending time together as a family - even the teenagers!

We have 2 cats. A very friendly (even needy) Burmese called Milo, who would hate to be left with no company when we are on holiday, and Leo who is a beautiful young white cat.

Destination

The dates just have to be within school summer holidays, and unfortunately my husband can probably only take 2 weeks off.

This house swap idea is totally new to us, but one of my friends has done it lots of times and it has been a brilliant success in all sorts of unusual places which I would never have thought of, so we are flexible on where - anywhere interesting and lovely!
