Description

My home is a charming attached cottage in a purely urban environment, in Berkeley, California. It is small -- one bedroom plus study, tucked away off-street. It is beautifully furnished with antiques and Oriental rugs.

The kitchen is modern and well apointed.

There is a front and a back garden with a deck, outdoor dining table and chaise lounge.

It is perfect for a single person, or a couple. It's also possible to convert the study to a second bedroom vis a comfortable roll-a-way cot.






Neighborhood

Berkeley is a university town (University of California), famous for its liberality and openness, small and easy to get around in, but totally cosmopolitan. It is known as the Gourmet Ghetto for its world-class restaurants. Art museums, concert halls, repertory theaters, jazz clubs are close at hand. There is also sailboating at the Marina, long hikes in a nature reserve in the Berkeley hills, easy and planned urban bike-riding.

Across the Bay, just 20 minutes away, is San Francisco, with all of its magic -- Fisherman's Wharf, cable cars, Victorian gingerbread houses, the Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park and familiar scenes from the summer of love.

Across the Bay in the other direction is easy access to nearby entirely nonurban environments for hiking, camping, wineries, hot springs, and historic Gold Rush country.

You will be living in close proximity to friendly neighbors. Bus and high-speed train stations are within walking distance, if you don't want to drive. Everything you need is close at hand. The San Francisco Bay -- with a waterfront park, restaurants over the water, marina, and kite festivals -- is only minutes away.

About Us

I am an older single woman, retired from employment. I am very engaged in social justice activism and a writer. I seek to spend time each year with my New Zealand family.

Destination

I am seeking an exchange in New Zealand in the Northland Province, anywhere from Waipu to Whangarei.
