Description

You will enjoy the casual, open floor plan in this spacious 2-story home. It receives a great deal of sunlight throughout the day.

All rooms are waterfront except the bathrooms. A fully equipped kitchen adjoins the dining/living area, which exits to a covered porch overlooking the water. The master suite has a king size bed, walk-in shower, whirlpool for 2, toilet in WC, and laundry. The guest room has a private bath (walk-in shower, no tub) and a queen size bed. It adjoins the TV room.

A 20' x 20' upstairs loft provides a sitting area with a wall of west side window, king size bed, queen size sofa bed, spacious bath with shower/tub, and a private deck giving wide-angle water views.

The house, completed in 2004, measures 4400 sq. ft./408 sq. meters. You’ll have broadband Internet access, cable TV, piano, barbecue grill, bikes & exercise equipment, and loads of reading material.

We enjoy taking our early morning coffee in bed from where we observe the herons and waterfowl congregate just a few yards/meters away. This is matched only by savoring "happy hour" at sunset, when the sky grows vivid with colors that reflect upon a broad river beyond the marsh. It can be yours to experience.....

Neighborhood

We’re located on a small peninsula called Heron Point. A tidal marsh adjoins the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and we face a 2.5-mile expanse of water.

The house is an easy 7 minute drive from Beaufort. Our neighbors are older, well traveled, friendly yet not intrusive. It's completely safe for walking & biking. We've no public transportation, thus our car will be available for your use. Besides the beach (25 min.), we have 4 golf courses & tennis nearby.

Beaufort, located at the southern tip of the Outer Banks, was founded in the 1720s and is home to about 4000 residents. Its friendly pubs and shops, galleries, maritime museum, fine waterfront restaurants, impressive tree-lined historic district, and proximity to Cape Lookout National Seashore & lighthouse all contribute to its popularity. The nearby aquarium is really world-class. Pleasant day trips include deep-sea fishing off the coast, ferrying to Ocracoke Island, or a 40-mile drive to New Bern’s colonial governor’s Tryon Palace & Gardens. A terrific overnight would encompass the Outer Banks town of Kitty Hawk, where flight by man began in 1907.

About Us

We are Kay (50s) and John Dennis (60s). Kay is a university professor, working totally online and loving the flexibility it allows. She enjoys gardening and music. John is a semi-retired computer consultant. He savors music of all types, photography, and reading about science and history. He's a Beaufort native and likes all things coastal.

We have cats that can stay outdoors (though they will appreciate water and food!). We would be grateful if you would water the indoors plants. We're happy to do the same for you.

We are very eager to travel more since Kay works online now. We are ready to go just about anywhere - appreciate antiquities, villages, old churches, bookshops, museums and galleries, meeting local people, and simply enjoying scenery.

We'll reply promptly to any responses.

Destination

We are new to exchanges and very open to offers for just about anywhere. For 2007 we are actively seeking a series of 2- or 3-week exchanges: France; Italy; Austria, & Czech Republic.

We'd also enjoy a short exchange into New York City or Boston - anytime. For 2008, the western USA.

We hope to hear from you and will respond promptly to all inquiries.
