Description

Hello, we have a small house in a fishing/boating resort area in the Ozarks region of the US.

We are located in Arkansas about 10miles from the border of Missouri. Most of the original Europeans in this area were from Scotland, Ireland, and England and our heritage, music, and crafts are deeply rooted to the UK.

By choice our home is simple and well maintained but filled with family memories plus pottery, furniture, baskets, and other items collected while traveling and living abroad.

It is a comfortable retreat in the midst of a beautiful setting. We have 1340 sq feet with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths with artists' studio wedged into the odd corner and into the garage workshop areas. On our 1.5 acres we are cultivating a wildlife habitat to attract birds, butterflies, deer and small creatures.

Although we have 2 bedrooms, our home would be most comfortable for 3 as one of the bedrooms contains only a single bed and is used as my jewelry studio (my easel and paints are in our sun room area. We also have a lovely covered patio and large fenced area for our 2 small friendly dogs. We also have 2 friendly cats.

Neighborhood

This is a gorgeous and historic region with rolling mountains, deep water lakes and cold rivers teeming with fish. There are many recreational opportunities for hiking, kayaks, fishing, birding, and biking. The region is also known for the traditional folk music (much derived from our ancestor’s music brought from the UK) and is teeming with artists and local crafts people.

This is really a wonderful area to explore and is little known outside of the US. It is a true taste of real middle-America. It is paradise for birders, photographers, and outdoor enthusiasts.

We are 1 mile from a fabulous deep water lake (Bull Shoals) where you can fish, swim, boat, scuba, water ski, or rent a pontoon boat, fishing boat, or houseboat. We are also close to several other lakes and the famous White River and Buffalo River where you can kayak, canoe, float, fish (trout are abundant) or just walk and enjoy the wildlife.

We are close to many Ozark attractions including Branson (where there are many musical shows and other attractions) and Eureka Springs, a delightful Artist’s community. We are also the gateway to the deep South, the Midwest, and the Southwest. This is a perfect central location to see the well known and the less known sites of the US.

We are within 2 - 8 hours driving to Saint Louis , Memphis (made famous as the home of Elvis Presley), the Mississippi River, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, (Chicago), Kentucky (Kentucky Derby), and Louisiana. In these locations you can visit Presidential libraries, museums, aquariums, zoos, historical landmarks, Native American archeological sites, athletic events, large shopping malls, civil war battlefields, national and state parks, and a variety of outdoor recreation.

You can also experience true regional cuisine in the area including Southern food, Catfish, bar-b-cue, pecan pie, and many other wonderful foods.

About Us

We are an artist and musician/instrument builder who work from our home studios. We fled our hectic city life and large home in Oregon for this slower, simpler life. We are in our mid 40's to mid 50's.

Matthew is a former engineer/software developer and Onedia is a former manager in government and multi-family properties. He is from Dallas, TX.

Onedia is an artist (pastels, jewelry, and small scale sculpture) and Matthew is establishing himself as a piano teacher and instrument builder (historical and modern pianos). She is from Arkansas.

We have one daughter and her husband who live in Portland, Oregon. Onedia's parents and siblings live in Arkansas and Matthew's parents live in Dallas, TX.

Our house is filled with what we enjoy -- books, an eclectic music collection, a wide screen TV with dish reception, a fine grand piano, and our pets (2 cats and 2 small dogs). Onedia has a studio wedged into 2 corners of our house and Matthew has a workshop in our converted garage and a piano studio in our living room.

We enjoy traveling and like to visit places that are meaningful to our art and music. On short trips we travel with our 2 small dogs but place them with family or friends for longer trips. Our 2 cats stay in our home with cat sitters caring for them.

Between us we speak Spanish and English.

Destination

We usually travel in autum to spring when there are fewer people and the weather is cooler. We do not mind the cold and avoid the heat (unless we are stretched out in a cabana by a pool) . We are open to non-simultaneous. In particular we would like to be in a cool location for late July / August. In exchange you could visit here in the winter. Although the winter is not warm it is moderate and there is plenty of sunshine.

We are very interested in these areas (but are open to other offers) ---

Michigan Peninsula/ Traverse City area in the U. S. for Summers only.

The Azores for Summers

Paris, Alsace, the Veneto and Dolomites, Scotland, England, Vienna, Prague, Southern Germany, mostly in the fall and spring but also in the Winter.

We will consider a non-simultaneous exchange.

We are happy to enjoy your pets
