Description

Charming 1930's bungalow located in what is arguably the nicest street in the Wilmington Historic District Overlay (Carolina Heights Historic District). Home has been fully restored. Two bedrooms, one full bathroom. Original wooden floors. Working fireplace. Open front porch with swing.

Wilmington is an attractive coastal city of about 90,000 located on the Cape Fear River in southeastern North Carolina. Founded in 1739, Wilmington today is a flourishing business and tourist destination and is the capital of North Carolina's film industry.

Visitors to the area enjoy activities such as surfing, boating, sailing, fishing, golfing, antiquing, and exploring the region's rich history.

Neighborhood

Quiet oak-lined street that has served as a location for many films, including "Lolita" (the Jeremy Irons version). Easy walk to historic downtown Wilmington and the Cape Fear River. Ten-minute drive to fabulous Wrightsville Beach. Excellent neighborhood full of wonderful historic homes perfect for walking/jogging. Couldn't ask for better neighbors (mostly professionals and/or retired). Property located next to Mary Bridger Park and Burnt Mill Creek.

About Us

I am a college Spanish professor (University of North Carolina Wilmington) originally from La Jolla, California. I'm in my late 40s. My family includes my wife Gretchen and our eight-year old daughter Emma.

My wife and I are both of Irish descent, and we are very interested in exploring our Irish ancestry. (Both of my paternal great-grandparents emigrated from Ballandine, County Mayo, in the late 19th century.)

I have traveled all over the world and worked for a year as a translator in Nigeria. My family and I spent fall semester 2004 in Santander, Spain, where I served as the director of the UNC Charlotte Consortium for Study Abroad.

Destination

Dates somewhat flexible. Looking for exchange preferably in western Ireland or the south, but would consider anywhere in the Republic.
