Description
Ours is a well-maintained 3br/2bath home in a preferred, open Tucson neighborhood. We're located near the University of Arizona, its famous University Medical Center, and the exciting new retail, restaurant, and office zone next to it. Our home was built in 1927 in a classic Tucson style: an arched living room, recently painted walls in desert colors, skylights, a comfortable enclosed front porch, French doors in the master bedroom, and large bathrooms (one with a tub, the other a huge shower). It has a spacious backyard, a carport, and new appliances. All floors are hardwood. Our home is well maintained, in pristine condition. It's air-conditioned and landscaped with desert plants, including large saguaro cactus and ocotillo.
The home is fully furnished including fine furniture, utensils, appliances, gardening tools, and even sheets and towels. Further, we're prepared to offer use of our late-model VW Passat in exchange for use of a comparable vehicle overseas.
One or two cats are welcome; dogs are not.
Neighborhood
Tucson is the historic Southwest as seen in the movies: a Spanish outpost turned Mexican trading center and, finally, the classic American desert habitat: uncrowded, welcoming, politically progressive, and more intellectual than other Southwest cities. Visit http://www.visittucson.org/ for more information and photos.
Our neighborhood is comfortable and, were you to rent a home here, pricey. To the north are the beautiful Catalina Mountains; to the south, about six blocks away, is the spacious campus of the University of Arizona; and to east and west, the Sonora desert, enclosed by distant ranges.
Transportation in Tucson tends to be automotive. A bus stop is one block away. Street parking is plentiful and free. People in the neighborhood walk here more often than they drive. They're friendly. Across the street live three firemen; next door, a music producer; across the street, musicians who play with such notables as Tucson's own Linda Ronstadt and visiting acts like the Zappa Band and Steve Stills.
Within walking distance is Bookman's, Tucson's most important and largest used bookstore; a pharmacy; several quality restaurants; a natural food store; a coffee shop; a bank; a post office; a shopping mall including a supermarket; and various and sundry small shops to meet your every need.
Public schools in this section of town are considered among the best. A branch library is relatively close by (and of course, the University Library is excellent).
Recreation includes desert hiking, travels throughout the Southwest and to Southern California, horseback riding, prospecting, wildlife observation, and a full range of community and cultural activities affairs. See http://tucsonweekly.com/ for coverage of a typical week's news, civic happenings, and entertainment activities.
Oh yes: it's wonderfully warm but not at all hot in Tucson October through June. In the summer months, the monsoons rain down coolness. Tucson's a great place to live!
About Us
We're a professional couple in our 50s. Bob is an innovation consultant and former analyst with the California Legislature; as a high-tech CEO, he founded two companies dealing with virtual worlds. Debra is an art collector, historian, and curator; she's also a ballet dancer who's studied with the best. Debra's a native Tusconan who's traveled and often lived everywhere from New York City to Papua New Guinea and throughout Europe. We have no children.
Having grown comfortable in this nice place, we decided to shake up our lives and do something completely counterintuitive: move where it's cooler, even cold -- the Øresund region that comprises Copenhagen and southern Sweden (Skåne). Our professional aspirations led us in this direction anyway. So we figured, let's give it a try!
This September, we travel for our respective interviews in DK and SE.
In which case, our lovely home in this wonderful city will now be available for your pleasure. Welcome!
Destination
We would like this to be a simultaneous, long-term exchange. We must live in or around Copenhagen; or in Skåne, reasonably near Malmö, preferably in one of the west coast beach towns with access to the railroad. We favor Skåne but are open to a DK exchange.
If you're a new UA or visiting faculty member, this is an ideal location for you. Also if you're just taking a sabbatical or long-term vacation for health or simply "down-time" purposes.
We're prepared to include use of a late-model VW Passat with the home in exchange for use of a comparable vehicle in Sweden.
