Description

Ex workers cottage. Neat and roomy. 3 bedroom typical of area. Edwardian style. Short walk to everything including trams and trains. Only 10 mins to city centre. Super convenient.

Neighborhood

Located in vibrant multicultural dynamic inner western suburb. Once working class but now gentrified and inhabited by genteel professionals (who drink tea from a cup and saucer) and their precocious aspirational offspring. Essentially because of its proximity to Melbourne. Exchange would also include our house in the country 40 klms from Melbourne on acreage in bush/farm setting. Perfect for quiet weekend getaway during hectic stay in Melbourne. Close to country getaway is cute local Pub and quaint railway station with regular trains to Melbourne and places north. We are lecturer and nurse. We are running away and leaving the kids behind. I will be on long service leave. We will leave a car but it probably will only be needed for the country house and getting to and from etc. We are looking to locate to major urban setting somewhere in Northern hemisphere for an extended stay July - Nov 2010. Open to imaginative and well expressed suggestions. Somewhere well serviced with an historical angle would be perfect. During your stay in Melbourne activities would include Australian Rules football finals, Royal Melbourne show Melbourne Cup and Spring racing carnival at Flemington (walk to from city house) plus numerous other film festivals wine festivals etc. Our country house is in the famous Macedon Ranges Region. Noted for wineries and beautiful scenery. There is a local wine festival in August.

About Us

We are professionals in our 50's. Travelled extensively. My wife and I have lived and worked in UK, US and China at various stages in our working lives both before and during our marriage. We are both widely read and curious by nature. My partner has been involved in dog breeding and judging all her adult life. I am a former elite athlete (rower) who's physical excersion is now limited to the occasional sedentary bike ride. By the time of the exchange our children will be in university and hopefully capable of using a hotplate and opening a can so they don't starve during our absence. I think once we board the plane we will be beyond caring after 20 plus years of expensive and devoted nurturing.

Destination

We are open but would be particularly receptive to inquiries from following regions - Quebec, Ontario or British Columbia Canada, New England, Washington State Oregon California USA, Cooler (as in climate) European cities. London, Barcelona, Lisbon, Dublin, Paris, Florence, Sienna would be high on wish list or even more regional parts of England (Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Cornwall), Portugal (Algarve), Germany (Bavaria) France (Quercy, Provence) and Italy (Lombardy, Tuscany). We are not looking for a mansion. A bolt hole with a bed would do. You certainly won't feel that you have to tiptoe past the Ming Dynasty vases at our place. Its not that kind of place!! Its not a mini museum, its a home we live in!! Definately put your feet up and pretend you're home. Its attraction is its location - the next suburb from the CBD of downtown Melbourne.
