Description

We have a beautiful renovated stone farmhouse dating from early 1800s, in an utterly peaceful location off a country lane, near the medieval market town of Guingamp, in the Cotes d'Armor region of Brittany, northern France. There are 3 bedrooms: 2 doubles, 1 twin (2 single beds and baby cot), large rustic style kitchen/diner, large beamed living room with working fireplace and comfortable large suite, family bathroom, sunny garden, TV/DVD. washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave, highchair, garden furniture, BBQ, table tennis table, 2 adult bikes, hammock for use, spare futon, central heating. The house is our holiday home and is furnished in a clean, simple and modern style. The house is arranged all on one level, with no stairs. We are in a rural location so car hire is necessary (we can help you make arrangements) but nearest village is only 1 km - (with boulangerie and small shop) and nearest large town 3km with all amenities - so the house is tranquil without feeling cut off. We have friendly, quiet French neighbours, and an English speaking housekeeper who can assist you during your stay.

Neighborhood

The Cotes d'Armor region of Brittany is very attractive, with some spectacular scenery - in particular the "Pink Granite Coast" is wonderful for walking and rock hopping, and there are a vast array of sandy beaches, all within 25-45 minutes drive from the house, which makes the area particularly appealing for families. The beaches range from deserted stretches of sand, to pebbly beaches with rock pools, or low-key French resorts with children's clubs. We love driving around discovering new coves. The sea is usually very safe for swimming here. Surfers can easily travel to the Finistere region for bigger waves, and you can still find all the usual activities like windsurfing at the bigger beaches. We love this part of Brittany as it still feels rather a secret - you won't tend to meet that many tourists, or hear many English voices on the beaches - you may actually hear Breton spoken more often! It is a region where many French people take their summer holidays. Other amenities nearby incude a small family theme park with boating, playground and indoor and outdoor swimming pools 15 mins from the house. Locally you will find some fantastic opportunities for dining, whether traditional gourmet French, fresh locally caught seafood, Breton gallettes or just a visit to the local farmers' market. There are plenty of interesting day trips possible from the house, these include the short ferry trip over to nearby offshore island Ile de Brehat, visiting the awe inspiring standing stones at Carnac, exploring the interesting Breton cities of Brest, Morlaix, or Rennes, and even Paris is within reach - 2.5 hours direct on the fast train from our nearest town.

About Us

We are a family of 3, my partner and myself are both artists (photographers) who work freelance and are therefore flexible about our travelling dates. We are quiet, neat and tidy and respectful of other people. We have a young daughter of 2, who is a good traveller, sociable and well behaved. Our work often requires visits to NYC so this type of exchange is particularly attractive to us.

Destination

As our house is a holiday home this can be a non-simultaneous exchange. We are particularly looking to spend a fortnight in NYC towards the end of October, but would consider other options in the same city.
