Description

Nice 900 square foot, 1 BR apartment in the heart of San Francisco's famous Haight-Ashbury district. The apartment is very spacious and charming and gets lots of light. It has high ceilings, hardwood floors, and lots of early-1900s San Franciscan period detail. It also has all the modern conveniences including cable television in both the living room and bedroom, DVD Players, Wireless Internet, laundry in the building, and a full kitchen.

The apartment is a two block walk to the bars, restaurants, and shops on Haight street, to Golden Gate Park, or to public transportation to anywhere in the city.

We love living here, it is a great apartment in a great neighborhood!

Smokers' Note: Although we request that you do not smoke inside the apartment, there is an outside area off the kitchen (no view however) to smoke.

Neighborhood

The Haight-Ashbury was at the center of the San Francisco 1960s hippie movement and was home to many of the leading musicians, poets, and political leaders of the era that including the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, and Jefferson Airplane amongst others. The neighborhood palpably retains much of the bohemian charm and culture of that era. The neighborhood is constantly abuzz with people shopping, eating and drinking at the local shops, restaurants, coffee shops, markets, and bars. The apartment is located a short two blocks to the north of a busy part of Haight street.

Two blocks to the west is beautiful and expansive Golden Gate Park. Within the park are the Japanese Tea Garden, the De Young Museum, the Botanical Gardens, the Rose Garden, Stow Lake, Kezar Stadium, tennis courts, bocce ball courts, running tracks, basketball courts, soccer/football fields, baseball diamonds, bison, windmills and of course lots of open space to picnic, play sports, join or just watch the famous drum circle and much much more. One of my favorite things about the park is just walking around watching people participate in their hobbies of choice: kite-flying, model boat racing, fly-fishing, skating, juggling, and many more have homes in the park and you can find experts to talk to about just about any outdoor hobbie in the Park.

The area also provides public transportation to everywhere in San Francisco. Bus lines are within two blocks in any direction from the apartment and the muni metro is a seven minute walk south.

In addition, many other neighborhoods including upscale and very cute Cole Valley (7 minutes), the up and coming and very fun Lower Haight (15 minutes), trendy Hayes Valley (20 minutes), and the laid back Inner Sunset (20 minutes) are all within walking distance.

About Us

My girlfriend and I are both in our late twenties and are graduate students in San Francisco. She is getting her Ph.D. in Psychology and I am working on my law degree. We love art and culture, movies, and just going out around town and meeting new people.

We speak English, some Spanish, and very limited French (although I am beginning French language classes). I can read Spanish and French fairly well, so feel free to respond in either language.

We have never swapped housing before but are really looking forward to the experience.

Destination

We really want to go to Rome for this time period but are open to anywhere, especially major European cities.

We are also very much open to any other offers. Please contact us if you are interested.
