Description

This is a charming quiet back studio in Venice, California, a bike ride from the beach. Sit in the private yard with butterflies, birds and hummingbirds to sip your coffee. At night, the scent of blooming jasmine and gardenias will put you to sleep. The studio is a spacious 850 square feet with high ceilings. The wall of French doors and windows overlook the lush Monet floral garden of bouganvillea, butterfly bushes and roses, so that even when inside, you feel you are living in the garden. The kitchen is fully equipped with butcher block counters, and a butcher block island. We like to cook, so the Creuset Dutch oven as well as garlic press and wine bottle opener are all here. As for appliances: the stove is gas, with an oven and broiler. The refrigerator is large. There is a full sized washer and dryer. The bathroom is good sized with a full tub and shower. The floors are saltillo tiled, while the sink has a unique cracked tile mosaic counter. In the studio, the floors are hand stained, with carpets throughout. Ceiling fans cool in the summer, the gas heater very effectively warms the space in the winter. (However, the winters in Venice are quite mild.) The bed is a comfortable pillow top queen on a platform with lamps for reading. To rest from your busy days (or not) you can sit on our comfortable sofa and select a book from our large bookcase library of art books, novels, philosophy books, and non-fiction. The studio is equipped with wifi so you can stay in touch with anyone around the world. There is a 1988 Mercedes available, or a 1992 Ford Explorer SUV that is possible to exchange.

Neighborhood

Venice is, after Disneyland, the second most sought after vacation destination in the United States. This is with good reason, since California gives the traveler a gateway to so much. Of course, there is our climate, but in a few hours, one can be in the desert, the mountains, the sea, Mexico...even Las Vegas, San Fransisco and Big Sur. In terms of art, Los Angeles has the Getty museum, both the ocean branch and the Brentwood facility; the Museum of Contemporary Art, and LACMA. Venice has been home to artists for decades, and the studios of world famous artists dot the area. Venice has beautiful neighborhoods, as well as a unique canal area. Everywhere in the city, free concerts abound, and the location of this house, close to major streets, offers easy access via public transportation to everywhere. LA is now connecting the city with the Metro, a wonderful way to get in and around. Truly, one can bike to the beach with the famous Venice Promenade, or walk to a Starbucks just around the corner. The neighborhood is very quiet and beautifully adorned; the neighbors know one another and are friendly. Venice is a unique, beautiful and wonderful place to live.

About Us

Michael and I work as landscape designers, as well as contractors. Thus, we are "handy", and can fix practically anything. We are also both artists: he is a painter and I am a writer. Michael is in his 60's; I am in my late 50's. We have owned our home for 15 years, and have moved into the studio in the back to simplify our life. We love living in the studio very much, and love to work on the landscaping (when we have time) to create these beautiful gardens. We are very responsible, and neat. We love to travel and explore the world, not just so that we can bring home photographs, but to experience the lifestyle, and get to perhaps know the inhabitants.
