Large and sunny top floor west facing 1920's 1 bedroom/1 bath apartment in Berkeley. View of San Francisco Bay and hills. Walk to UC Berkeley, restaurants, theatre district, shops, grocery, post office, gym. Only 3 blocks from rapid transit (BART), 20 minute ride to San Francisco. 1 mile to freeway. Futons for 2 additional guests in living area. Hardwood floors, gas stove, coin-operated laundry facilities on site, private parking area. You are free to use our car (1995 Golf). We have one affectionate and well-behaved indoor cat that will need feeding and litter box scooping. The building does not have an elevator and we're up 3 flights of stairs.

Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is fairly quiet and residential within easy walking distance of the University of California Berkeley, more upscale shops on 4th Street, excellent vintage clothing and furniture shops, the theatre district, cinemas, phenomenal restaurants, including Alice Waters' Chez Panisse, coffee houses, a bakery, post office, copy/internet shop, public pool and a very nice YMCA gym. Groceries are only 2 blocks away and the BART system only 3 blocks away providing quick access to San Francisco. Tilden Park is only a 10 minute drive or bus ride to east, with miles of mountain bike trails, hiking, fresh water swimming lake, canyons, and botanical gardens.

About Us

We're a fun-loving couple in our thirties - Chris is from London and is a biologist at UC Berkeley. Kim is from Canada and is an Epidemiologist with the state of California. We love getting outdoors - climbing, hiking, bike riding, and enjoying the many colorful street festivals around the San Francisco Bay area. We're happy to share our car, bicycles, camping gear, etc.

Destination

Ottawa or Montreal, Canada - open to either a few days beginning July 10, 2008 or a few days beginning July 26. From around July 16 - 25 I'll be traveling to St. John's Newfoundland.
