Description

My Beachhouse is modern, sunny , warm and airy.Downstairs has a private outdoor decked space planted in native trees under a shade sail.Upstairs has a great view of the ocean and from the ensuite a view over farmland to forested hills beyond.I have excellent neighbours on each side and the relatively quiet main road runs past my gate.
The house is 2 years old, architecturly designed with excellent flow and comfort.Downstairs has an open plan kitchen/ dining /lounge and TV area all opening to the deck along with a double and single bedroom and bathroom .Lounge is heated with a log fire.
Upstairs has the master bedroom,ensuite, small lounge and office.All bedrooms have spacious wardrobes and sarked pine ceilings with carpet on the floor.Large bifold windows allow the sound of the waves crashing to send you off to sleep.
Kitchen has gas hob,dish washer drawer, large pantry and is well laid out
Gardens are surrounded by riverstone walls and are have mature plantings.
There is parking for 2 vehicles which doubles as a babminton/volleyball court.
Attached to house is large single garage and laundry.
Property is fully fenced and trees and shrubs give it almost complete privacy .
Water is rainwater stored in 20,000litre tank taken from roof which has never run out and tastes great.
The house is very easy to live in and keep clean.There is plenty of storage private spaces .It heats up quickly with the sun in the morning and the log fire at night.
Electonics include a small TV and DVD ,Telephones and an excellent stereo system.Computer has dial up internet only.
Maintenance of the grounds is low with the odd weed to pull and lawns to mow taking 15mins or so.Windows need cleaning of salt now and again.
There a house between mine and the beach but its a mere 20metre stroll past it down a track to an absolutely gorgious beach!

Neighborhood

Tirohanga Beach community is made up of approx 20 beach houses a motor camp and beach store /garage. It sits on a strip of sand dunes about 100m deep and 3km long between the highway and the ocean.It is not yet a wealthy community and you will meet friendly welcoming locals from all walks of life.
The beach is beautiful.It's about 5km long between a bluff and the Waiaua River mouth.It is covered in white sand and usually has interesting driftwood from the many wild rivers . Few people frequent the beach except on holidays outside the motor camp.Sea conditions can range from glassy calm to powerful surf. Surfcasting and longlining can provide large catches of snapper. Swimming is generally safe and it's possibe to light a fire on the beach at night.
It's a very rural community with the beach store servicing not only the visitors to the motor camp but the surrounding farms,orchards and lifestyle blocks.
The small township of Opotiki(pop.10,000) is 8km away providing most ammenities and with 2 hours the cities of Gisborne, Whakatane,Rotorua and Tauranga can be driven to all along wonderfully scenic routes.
There is excellent winter skiing at Mt Ruapehu approx 3 hours away
Opotiki and the Eastcape region boasts the best weather and the finest natural scenery in New Zealand.
Rivers Lakes Harbours ,National and State parks with 300km of rocky bushclad bays and white sandy beaches.If it's natural beauty and peaceful vistas you want this it the place.Socially, Opotiki is well provided for too with 3 pubs and excellent cafes and a well presented Golf Course.
Culturally it has almost 50% Maori population, many Maraes and very laid back easygoing feel to it.
While a little out on a limb and certainly off the beaten track, Opotiki is equally distant to Auckland and Wellington (4-5hours)and only 2 hours to the tourist centres of Rotorua and Lake Taupo.
It's an excellent place to explore the rest of the north island from and very restful to return to from your trave

About Us

I'm a 52 year old single guy with 2 daughters 21 and 30.They're both jounalists. I'm an Avocado grower with the orchard just down the road.Its pretty busy over the summer but allows me 4 months off over the winter.I hope to be accompanied by my girlfriend, Heather (just the 2 of us) She is an organic farmer and has a large sheep and beef station in Hawkes Bay.
Hobby wise I'm into whitewater kayaking and bush walking .That's why I live here, great rivers and forest.I'm also a builder and built the house along with a couple of others at the orchard myself.
I'm afraid I only speak english but a good friend,Lynn, who speaks fluent french and spanish.
I've lived in this area for 30 years , love it here and think I can guide you to the best spots for whatever you'd like to do provided it's in the outdoors.I actually know my way around the reat of the country quite well too so whatever you want to do I am sure I can help.
I have a Peugeot Diesel car that is just great to travel in too.And a BMW motorcycle if you are really keen!
I keep a tidy house , enjoy cooking and entertaining

Destination

I am quite flexible about dates and exchange could be no-simultaneous. I am required to be back to harvest about September but can stay at a cottage on the orchard just down the road.Perhaps you might like to stay and pick avocados which is sure to get you fit and you'll sleep well at night!
I don't have a particular destination in mind although a semi rural setting is probably prefered over down town. I live quietly and enjoy exploring by walking and cycling .
July and August are winter months but the weather here in the Bay of Plenty is generally settled and sunny .The water will be cool.Air can be cool with the occassional frost.In saying that it is my favourite time of year with loverly beach walking,sunsets and excellent fishing.
