Our home is a two story side by side double; we live in half, and the other half accommodates my wife's paper conservation studio.
We have central air/heat, off st gated dual driveway parking for up to 4 cars, and two well behaved indoor/outdoor cats that stay home while we are away - so, if you are allergic to cats, stop reading now.
Geographically we are half a block off Napoleon Ave, two blocks South of Freret St (six blocks to St Charles Ave). We are minutes to downtown and the French Quarter and even closer to the Magazine St commercial/residential corridor. In other words, our neighborhood is close to everything but far enough away to remain quiet.
This home did have two inches of water during the flood of '05 (Katrina), but since then we have been rebuilding and improving this beautiful old structure. New roof, new rear landscaping - all in all it is a work in progress but one that remains desirable and functional.
I am a realtor, my wife a paper conservator, and we have two daughters under 5. She's a native, and I am naturalized since '92. We moved to this space in September '06. Originally we purchased it as an investment/rental, but the more work we did on it and the more we got to know the neighbors and the neighbrohood, we felt this space ideal for our family.
On the short term, we would like to travel to Philadelphia in early August '07 for about a week. See some of the surrounding parts (Crayola, Hershey) of the state as well as Philly itself. On the long term, we really coudn't say other than - make us an offer! We love to travel! With the kids we have been to Seattle, DC, Trinidad, and assorted towns in Texas!

Neighborhood
Our neighborhood consists largely of owner occupied homes with some mixed use and multi-units. Our block is quiet but off of a main thoroughfare - Napoleon Ave - which on Mardi Gras accounts for some parades' routes. There are two parks within a block of us, mirroring each other on Napoleon. Recently, a vegetable/fruit vendor sets up there routinely. We are in the middle of the city, which either if you bike or drive is convenient, nestled between uptown and downtown.
Our lot is 60' x 150', large by city standards. Our property is centered on the block, as such almost every neighboring property backs up to it.
About Us
Again, I am a realtor and not so much found this home, as it found us. I had a listing across the street which the previous owner found me by, asking if I may be interested in listing his house, and upon viewing it, I offered to buy it outright.
My wife's paper conservation studio has doubled in size since the storm as she works on water or mold damaged paper pieces, artifacts, heirlooms, etc. Her studio will be moved to the other half of this house by the end of June '07 as we have been renovating the space to accommodate her needs.
I speak some French, my wife does not speak any other languages, but our oldest daughter will be attending a French immersion program school this Fall.
We enjoy outdoor live music, outdoor markets, and museums, and the impetus for this current proposed excursion to Philadelphia came from my seeing a poster for a fabric museum/workshop at an open house recently, and my curiosity peaked. Upon learning more about it online - and needing a vacation - we have decided to try to visit before the end of the summer.
