Descrizione

Traditionally built Mediterranean village house, the end and rear walls being reputedly over 800 years old. These formed part of the original ramparts of the fortified hamlet and are over four feet thick in places.The exterior retains its rugged character while the interior has been carefully modernised to provide up-to-date standards of comfort and amenities.
The house is on three floors, Ground floor comprises the entrance, dining room, sitting room, kitchen , with the staircase to the middle floor. On this floor are two double bedrooms, dressing room, bathroom with a staircase to the next floor The Grenier. This provides our summer living area, studio, bathroom , kitchen, laundry, staircase to the private Roof Terrace.
Distant views of the The Pyrenees , the Corbiere hills, provide the perfect location for enjoying the sun, a stunning sunset, whilst having an aperitif.
On line internet service is provided.
We also have a ground floor apartment in The Algarve Portugal. It comprises a one double bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, spacious living room, terrace. This is situated in the resort of Balaia Golf Village, which has a web site.The resort is within walking distance of the famed Algarve sandy beaches, the nearest being Maria Luisa, Santa Eulalia, the nearby town is Albufeira.Further information we will be pleased to provide

Quartiere

The village is located within the vineyards that produce the largest quantity of wine in Europe. Numerous opportunities to have wine tastings at the many wineries that abound the neighbourhood.
Historic World Heritage sites of Carcassone, Canal du Midi, are nearby, and on the Mediterranean coast the towns of Perpignan and Narbonne. The Corbiere hills provide the site of Fortresses that were the centre of the Cathar movement, which The Knights Templar were instrumental in destroying.
Long sandy beaches provide a coast line stretching from the Spanish border to The Camargue, famed for the white horses.
The Spanish border is within an hour, with excellent road and rail services to Barcelona the second largest city in Spain.
Villages Colloiure, Ceret, famed for the artists who lived and worked on their Impressionist paintings. Picasso, being the most famous, Salvador Dali lived and worked just over the border in Spain at Figueras where there is an art museum dedicated to his works.
Montpellier lies to East , an historic city that was amongst the first to provide University knowledge in medical care.
The nearest town is Lezignan Corbiere which has a lively street market every Wednesday. This creates colour , spectacle and theatre for both the locals and the tourists. In nearby villages market day is celebrated , providing many opprtunites to visit the ancient places, sample the local produce, and relax at a pavement cafe.
Travel to the area can be by air to Carcassonne, Perpignan, Bezier, Montpellier, Toulouse.
By rail Fast TGV trains from Paris and the north of France to Narbonne.
By road the Peage East to West has two exits at Narbonne, with the Entre de Mere Peage accessed at Lezignan.

Chi siamo

Peter & Diana are retired, now into their 11th. year of living at La Citadelle.
We have three children, all who have long ago fled the nest. Two of our family are now living in and around Los Angeles, each with their respective families.Twice a year we endeavour to visit and have family time together. Each visit we try to encompass with a home exchange. So far we have had 6 home exchanges, each memorable for the right reasons. The opportunity to live within a community, meet new friends, share in local pursuits , gives an added dimension to vacation time. We respect the homes into which we are invited to exchange, and expect a mutual caring for our home.
Before retirement Peter had an active life which did require travel. He provided a turnkey operation in the entertainment and leisure market. Mainly within Britain and also in Europe.
Now travel allows the chance to see the new ideas, marvel or criticise the new concepts in the leisure market.
People have concern about speaking French. We've never mastered the art of speaking French, but you can get by as the French appreciate you trying and are welcoming to Etrangers.

Destinazione

We are retired and have no fixed agenda. A car exchange is required. Our preference is for California, other destinations will be considered.
