Description

Our townhouse is situated in a quiet and very safe neighborhood at the edge of Karlsruhe. Our six-bedroom house with a spacious, open-plan living/dining area and fitted kitchen totals about 2,200 square feet (200 sqm) and can comfortably sleep 10-12 people. There are two bathrooms, one with a bath tub and one with a shower. We also have a high speed internet connection.

Our compact, fenced-in yard is landscaped with English roses and also has a sandbox, swing and slide, barbeque, and covered outside seating.

We live in a very friendly family community and there are several excellent adventure playgrounds within walking distance of the house. An excellent bakery is just around the corner so every morning you can sample fresh German rolls, breads and pastries.

We are a few minutes walk away from an excellent public transport network which will take you straight down town in seven minutes by tram or further a field.

We would be willing to include our fully insured 2005 Chrysler Grand Voyager with automatic transmission and navigation system in the exchange.

Neighborhood

Experience typical German life in the relaxed city of Karlsruhe. There are plenty of activities such as visiting the Karlsruhe palace, art museums (with original paintings by Rubens, Rembrandt, Cranach, Breughel, Monet, Degas, Kandinsky, Cézanne, Gaugin), the unique center for art and media technology and a landscaped zoo. Karlsruhe has a wide range of restaurants serving traditional German cuisine and international specialities.

Our central location is ideal for sightseeing both within Germany and France as well as other European countries. Located very near the Black Forest we are only an hour away from Heidelberg, Frankfurt, and Freiburg. Half an hour’s drive will take you to France with Paris only 5 hours away. In three hours you could be hiking in the Swiss Alps. Our spontaneous outings in the past have even included a day trip to Italy!

The regional airport of Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden offers extremely cheap flights to Rome, London, Florence/Pisa, Dublin and other cities (ryanair.com).

There are 3 Disney-like theme parks within one hour drive (google for Europopark, Holiday Park Hassloch and Tripsdrill park), and Euro Disney in Paris is only 5 hours away.

Karlsruhe, a medium city with about 280,000 people, has a famous palace, universities, theaters, cinemas, galleries, a zoo etc. There are several public indoor and outdoor pools and also small lakes for swimming.

About Us

We are a family of six: My British wife Suzie (43), my daughters Kirsten (22, university student), Carina (18, just finishing school), Jenna (8, also in school), Emily (5) and me, Georg (47).
My wife and I work as self-employed English/German translators.
We are a mixed English/German family, and most of our books, DVDs, videos etc. are in English.
We did an exchange in 2001 with a nice family near New York City and would like to exchange with a likeminded family anywhere in the world.
Due to allergies we would not be able to look after pets.

We are all strict non-smokers and will only swap house with a non-smoking family.
