Description
A beautiful house located in the Irish speaking village of Carraroe in Co. Galway, on the west coast of Ireland. Situated in a beautiful village, with charming pubs with traditional irish music. There are an abundance of beaches within walking distance, 20 minutes approximately, and Galway city is only 35 minutes away by car. The house has a beautifully landscaped garden with a small flowing stream and a pond with fish. We are a family with one daughter and we play irish music and are native irish speakers. The house is perfectly located for exploring Connemara, the Aran islands, Galway and the west of Ireland. There are 3 bedrooms, a large kitchen (my wife is a wonderful cook!), 3 bathrooms, a jacuzzi bath, 2 showers, a 'music room' with a fold-out futon and a sitting room.
(the music room has quite a number of musical instruments) We have a wonderful patio area with a barbecue and patio furniture. We have an open solid fuel fireplace and no shortage of logs for a nice evening in. We have broadband internet access & a computer with 'Skype' (for calling home and telling friends what a great time you're having !). The house has a small adjoining one bedroom flat. There is a little lake just off the patio with resident water-hens, herons and ducks. We often find hedgehogs on the patio and there are a family of pheasants just off the lawn.
Neighborhood
Beautiful scenery. A number of quaint little beaches approximately 20 minutes walk away (2 minutes by car) one of which is a beautiful coral beach. From the garden there are views of the 'Twelve Pins', the Maamturk mountains and beautiful bays. The famous 'Galway Hooker' sailing boats and the 'Currachs' are very common around the coast and there are many racing festivals during the summer months. We are 10 minutes to the Aran islands ferry and airport. Wonderful traditional pubs with traditional irish music regularly. Wonderful location for touring and exploring the west of Ireland. Galway city is a vibrant, charming city and 'Salthill' and 'Quay Street' on a fine day is not to be missed. There are a large number of restaurants, pubs and many other attractions in Galway. Also, the beautiful areas of Kylemore, Clifden, Clew bay, Croagh Patrick and the Connemara National Park are all approximately 1 hour drive away. You will want to come back! County Clare is easily accessible and a trip to the Cliffs of Moher is a must for visitors. Carraroe is a small but growing village. The summer months see hundreds of Irish speaking students in the area. There are a number of great festivals in the area, in particular the famous Galway Races, the Galway Arts festival and many other traditional boating and music festivals around the area. The village of Carraroe is a growing village due mainly to the development of an Irish academy of University College Galway. During the summer it is a vibrant village but loses none of its charm. There is a regular daily bus service to Galway city that passes through the lovely village of 'Spiddal' on the way.
