Description
Our family home is on the main island Mahe. It consists of two buildings, the main house higher up and a guest villa on the beach, and together they sleep around 7 people.
The main house has a long veranda across the front where you can enjoy the spectacular sunsets. The house is very open and airy with the lounge, the kitchen and two of the bedrooms opening onto the veranda. It has all the family necessities – TVs, DVDs, and all the kitchen appliances you need, in a large modern kitchen. There are 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The master bedroom and guest bedroom both have beautiful traditional four-poster beds.
The guest house downstairs has a master bedroom with an antique, wrought iron, four-poster bed, and a very large sofa bed in the second lounge. It also has a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom, as well as a large open lounge complete with a full-sized American Pool table.
Our home is situated right on a beautiful white-sand private beach, shared only with the neighbours. The sea in front of the house is great for kids as it is calm and free of currents. At low tide you can walk round to neighbouring beaches to do some beach combing and at high tide it is great for swimming and snorkelling on the excellent coral reef just further out.
Swaps do not necessarily need to be simultaneous as we can accommodate guests in the guest villa by the sea. Alternatively we have a second home on the island of La Digue which could either be part of a non-simultaneous swap or rental. The holiday house is on La Digue Island, which is a 1½ hr boat journey away. This picturesque island is very quiet and laid back. The main form of transportation is by bike or ox cart. It’s a great place for a break away from it all. The house here also sleeps around 7 people. The kitchen has all mod cons and there is a TV and DVD player.
Neighborhood
The house is situated in the exclusive northern part of the main island, Mahe. It is set in beautiful and quiet surroundings but is only a 15min walk from the popular Beau Vallon beach area with lovely local restaurants, shops, and a couple of bars and hotels.
Having been a colony of both the French and the British in its time, Seychelles is now independent and has been for 30yrs. But the charming mix of French, British and African cultures can still be seen, and the friendly local population enjoy a peaceful and prosperous lifestyle. Mahe Island, the main island, is not only a fantastic place to explore with marvellous beaches and scenic spots; it is also a great setting stone for island hopping. Praslin island, a 10minute plane journey or 45minute boat ride away, is the second largest island and is home to the world heritage site, the Vallee de Mai, where you can find the unique double coconut, the Coco de Mer. The gorgeous La Digue Island is only a further 30mins by boat and well worth a visit. This beautiful, laid-back island has been the setting for many TV commercials, and it’s not hard to see why.
About Us
I (Jayne) am British but have lived in Seychelles for over 20yrs. My husband (George) is a local artist and together we run several art galleries and a design studio. We have two teenage boys (aged 14 and 16) and a grown up daughter who sometimes travels with us. We also have 3 loving, child-friendly dogs, who spend most of their time sitting on the beach, swimming and fishing. The dogs do not require much maintenance as they exercise themselves and are fed by our housekeeper, but they do like a little attention every now and then.
We speak English and French.
Destination
We are looking for a swap with Copenhagen between now and july 2007.
We have not finalised any plans for the easter, summer or Chritsmas holidays this year, we are really open to any suggestions.
Currently we are restricted to school holidays only for simultaneous swaps.
At the moment my daughter is studying in Copenhagen until July 2007, so it would be great if we could do a swap and find a place in the centre of Copenhagen so that we could visit her. The exchange could be either non-simultaneous or simultaneous (for simultaneous you would take the beach house on Mahe or the house on La Digue, but not the upstairs house on Mahe).
For other holidays we are pretty open to any suggestions. As a family we are quite well travelled and quite adventurous. Both city and rural offers will be considered. We are not really into beach-side holidays (too much like home) but if there were many other things to do, you could still tempt us. We will reply to all enquires but not always immediately. Surprise us, make us an offer! Open to any destination.
