Westfield Park Lodge, with imposing arch entrance replete with full size stag and guarding lions was built for Princess Diana’s ancestors as gate lodge to their Westfield estate. Hence the name of the road upon which it is located, Spencer Road, the most prestigious address in Ryde on the isle of Wight.
The stag was first exhibited at the Great Exhibition at Crystal Palace where it was much admired by Prince Albert who later visited with Queen Victoria to view it in situ at Westfield Park. French Royalty also enjoyed the tranquillity of the Westfield Estate during the troubled times of the French Revolution. Photographs of Westfield Park during Victorian times are on display in the hallway alongside Victorian Island images framed in wood salvaged from the Victorian pier in Ventnor.
Panoramic sea views and stunning sunsets are enjoyed from the comfort of the large lounge, the garden swing, and dining outside in the sheltered courtyard beneath the arch. The Solent, alive with pretty pleasure and racing yachts by day, twinkling lights over the water by night giving a romantic, magical feel to this very special place.
Private gated access to the beach, exclusive to residents of Westfield Park , gives a wide expanse of sandy beach for a quick swim before dinner, hours of sand play, or long walks: the entertainments of Ryde in one direction or secluded tranquillity of woods drifting down to the sea.
Enjoy early morning solitude on the beach as the sun comes up, walk in golds and reds of the sunset reflected in sea at the end of the day.
Wind surfing, jet-skiing, water skiing all possible with slipway access and plenty of room to store equipment on the double driveways of the Lodge.
Shops, restaurants, bars are a level 5 minute walk. Ryde Golf Club is just at the end of Spencer Road. Lawn bowls, ten-pin bowling, ice-skating, home of the renowned Raiders ice hockey team, nightclub, tennis courts, traditional sea front entertainments all within easy reach

The Isle of Wight is an English island and a county, located 3-5 miles (5–8 km) from the south coast of the mainland, in the English Channel. It is separated from mainland England by the Solent (across from Portsmouth and Southampton) and is situated south of the county of Hampshire. It can be reached by ferry - passenger ferry taking just over 10 mins, and/or car ferry taking 45 minutes. Westfield park lodge is a 15 or so minute walk from the passneger ferry terminal in Ryde, or a 15 minute drive from the Car ferry terminal in Fishbourne. Being only 2 hours away from central London by ferry and then direct regular train, it is a mecca for commuters and tourists alike.
The island is known for its outstanding natural beauty, its world-famous sailing based at Cowes, and its holiday resorts — which have been popular since Victorian times as a holiday destination. It has a rich history, including a brief status as an independent kingdom in the 15th century. It was home to the poet Alfred Lord Tennyson, and Queen Victoria built her much loved summer residence and final home Osborne House at East Cowes. The Island's maritime and industrial history encompasses boat building, sail making, the manufacture of flying boats, the world's first hovercraft and the testing and development of Britain's space rockets. It is home to the Isle of Wight International Jazz Festival, Bestival and the recently-revived Isle of Wight Festival, which, in 1970, was one of the largest rock music events ever held.[2] The island has some exceptional wildlife and is also one of the richest fossil locations for dinosaurs in Europe.
London is a 2 hour journey away, first by ferry (the terminal is a 15/20 minute walk from the house) from Ryde Esplanade to Portsmouth Harbour (ferrys run every half hour) followed by a train from the ferry terminal which takes you direct into central london in 1 hr 40 mins. Fantastic!

Hello!
My name is Stephanie and I have recently finished a PhD in Cognitive Neuropsychology in London. I have just returned from my long awaited gap year, where I was fortunate enough to travel Australia, New Zealand and some of the USA.
On returning home, I am looking forward to travelling with my younger brother, Steve, who will has just completed a PhD also! We are very keen snowboarders, and would love an exchange to a ski resort feb-april 2010. My brother is 26 and I will shortly be 28 years old. We are both very responsible and would of course treat your home like our own.
We are also interested in family holidays with my mother & father, as we remain very close despite having 'flown the nest'! We would be interested in driving from the UK down to the Algarve in Portugal, with exchanges for weekends/weeks along the way.
My brother and I are very sporty, with surfing & tennis very high on the list of our favourite activities. The whole family loves walking, and my father is an extremely keen golfer! Therefore in terms of Portugal our ideal exchanges would be to places near surf beaches and golf courses, please.
I am also very keen to organise weekend or week-long exchanges in different cities in Europe (UK included!)
We are open to both simultaneous and non simultaneous exchanges.
