Europe / Ireland / Galway / Galway

Close To   Galway (7 Kms)

Description

We live in a four bedroom bungalow on a large site, each room has a double bed and one also has a single bunk on top. There is a large dining area just off the kitchen. We also have a 'den' that has tv, dvd, games and a computer with broadband access. There is also a sitting room with a tv in it. The back garden is large and is south facing with garden furniture and a bar-b-que. The back give a fair degree of privacy there are no houses overlooking us. There are houses beside us some with young and teenage families, and its great to say they are all really good neighbours.

Neighborhood

We live on Ireland's west coast in Galway and let me say that you couldn't visit a nicer place.
My home is very near to the city centre, only 3 miles, but enjoys a rural setting. We are within walking distance of the Corrib river / lake and there are some nice walks locally. The city, with a population of over 70,000 people, is one of Ireland's premiere family holiday destinations, and if you visit here you will not be dissapointed. The city itself is a lovely compact medieval town that has a very friendly feel to it. It has great restaurants, pubs, loads of traditional music venues, seaside, one of Ireland's largest lakes on its doorstep with fishing for both coarse fish and trout, good shopping, in short something for everyone's taste.
Galway is also the gateway to the spetacular scenery of Connemara, a truly beautiful vista of mountains and lakes. In certain parts of Connamara Gaelic is still the every day spoken language of people. The city is also a good base from which to explore the counties of Mayo and Clare. Both counties have magnificent coastline, Clare has the renowned Burren, a limestone area of
special conservation, home to some exotic and unique fauna and flora. It also boast some of the highest sea cliffs in Europe. Mayo has no shortage of historic and cultural sites either, the Ceide Fields being one such example, a place with great sea views that was settled over 5000 years ago.
If you are into the arts there is an international arts festival that happens toward the end of July each year. It has a very eclectic programme covering a wide variety of tastes for all age groups. And if that's not enough directly after art's week there's a great seven days festival of horse racing. I hope I have given you a small flavour of what this part of Ireland has to offer but for even further information please go to www.irelandwest.ie and www.galway.net.
