Description

A spacious lowset home located in a quiet leafy area near the sea. There are gum trees in the back yard in which you can often spot one of our resident koalas. The house has 4 bedrooms plus a study with computer/internet and the main bedroom has an ensuite bathroom attached. The house opens out on to a large covered patio which overlooks the swimming pool and garden. A gas barbecue next to the patio and outdoor furniture lends itself to eating outside. A home theatre is set up in the living room. A car (4WD) is available.

Neighborhood

We live in the seaside suburb of Ormiston in the Redland Shire, forty minutes from downtown Brisbane, gateway to the protected waters and sub-tropical islands of Moreton Bay, only 1 hour's drive south to Australia's premier holiday destination of the Gold Coast, and one and a half hour's drive north to the Sunshine Coast both renowned for sun, surf and endless miles of spectacular sandy beaches. Redlands in the heart of the Koala Coast has a rich diversity of natural features - from surf beaches and rocky headlands to vast tracts of significant bushland and mangroves. You can "go bush" quietly observing the native koala population lazing in trees - a few of which have taken up residence in our back garden - or you may wish to take a trip out on Moreton Bay - its waters ideal for fishing, boating and water sports, including snorkelling and scuba-diving. Out on the bay you can watch out for migrating humpback whales, dolphins, dugong, manta rays and green sea turtles. Of the 365 islands dotting the vast marine part of Moreton Bay the two "gems" not to be missed are North Stradbroke Island and Moreton Island readily accessible by water taxi, passenger ferry and vehicular barge. The pristine natural beauty of North Stradborke Island with its stunningly beautiful beaches, its lakes, waterways and lagoons, abundance of marine life and laid-back atmosphere is less than 45 minutes away across the bay - so close to Brisbane but a world away and nature at its very best. It is our favourite destination for family camping trips. If you are wanting fine dining, art galleries, the theatre, museums, shopping then head into Brisbane - Australia's 3rd largest city which has on offer all the usual big city cosmopolitan experiences.

About Us

Lachlan and Janet are both Japanese language teachers in their early fifties with 3 children (aged 20 to 24 years). They have a passion for languages and travel and enjoy showing off their wonderful part of the world to overseas visitors. From September 2008 their daughter will begin a one year study exchange at Edinburgh University and they are very keen to spend Christmas and New Year with her. They are hoping to swap with someone eager to escape the cold for a hot and sunny Christmas Down Under. Lachlan and Janet have a large extended and enthusiastic family who live locally, so should you need some local tour guides or simply desire some company, they come with the house!

Destination

Our preference would be for a house/apartment in central Edinburgh to be close to our daughter who is attending Edinburgh University. However we would also consider homes in other areas near Edinburgh especially if a car is available. We have to be back at work mid-January 2009 but otherwise the dates and length of stay are flexible.
