Description

My brand new home across the street from the ever-changing and exciting Caribbean Sea offers modern and state of the art accomodation. The whole of the length of the front is a large verandah. Both front and back verandahs boast wonderful views.
The back boundary of the property runs along the banks of the Joe Taylor Creek - an area of spectacular beauty and one which I am fighting very hard to raise funds to conserve since there is an untouched Mangrove Forest and awesome birdlife on the other bank.

My house has two ensuite bedrooms and a third bedroom which I use as my study on the second floor - this latter has access to a half bathroom. On the ground floor, there is a 'bedroom suite' which can sleep four or more and which has its own bathroom and sitting area and independent entrance.

The upper floor accessed by local and locally made mahogany stairs is at present the TV room. The views from this room are far-reaching - at certain times of the year, one can see the Sierra de las Minas Mountains which are all the way in Guatemala City.

I have a beautiful kitchen made from local cedar with all the mod cons such as fridge/freezer, gas stove/cooker with micowave and dishwasher.

The grounds are yet to be sorted out but the verandahs and open spaces under the house afford enough outdoor space for bbqs and fun and games. One day maybe I can afford to put in swimming pool???

The property is completely fenced.

Neighborhood

One Mile House is at the spot where the one mile post on the San Antonio/Punta Gorda Road used to be.

I live on a strip along this main road into Punta
Gorda Town, Belize where the homes are very comfortable. The neighbours are for the most part North Americans and everyone keeps very much to himself/herself.

The neighbourhood is quiet although being in the Caribbean/Central America one can hear strains of music from the little bar down the street to the north of the house.

PG people are friendly and welcoming and you will soon feel very much a part of the community.

About Us

About me: I am a semi-retired former senior Government official and I am involved as Chair of a Quasi-Governmental body (The National Council on Ageing) and as a Board member of an Environmental Non-Government Organisation (TIDE - Toledo Institute for Development and Environment).

I love the Opera (not an expert by any means) and so I travel to Houston Texas at least twice a year to see performances.
I also travel to England where my daughter and her family live (in fact, although I am Belizean by birth, I also hold British Nationality)

I started my professional as an educator and applied linguist before moving on to work as CEO or Permanent Secretary for the Government of Belize.

I speak English and Spanish and a smattering of French, Italian, and German.

It is my life's ambition to become fluent in French and to live in France for a short time. Who knows!! Hence my interest in France (also of course, for the wine in the Loire Valley)

I also want to 'try out' living in Chiswick, London with a view to buying property there perhaps. Hence my interest in exchanging in this area.
