Description

Our home is located on Lake Springfield in Illinois; set on a beautiful point with hammock and lakeside double swing for your relaxation. A large home of a blended family will hold a large group comfortably. We have one double and one single kayak and windsurfers for those who windsurf. Lake is home of several fishing tournaments a year with bass, crappie and large catfish being all accessible from the home's dock, with boat rental nearby. Central Illinois has distinct seasons-- our open view of the lake from the living room will give you a beautiful view of snow in the winter or fall foliage in the fall and deer and blue heron enjoying the space in the spring and summer. We are a blended family with children ranging from 21 to 4 years. Primarily we will travel with the youngest. We have a well behaved Cairn Terrier and Welsh Corgi that will not travel with us. Stephen is from the UK and lived in Cape Town and Becky is American; we are both in the medical field.

Our home is spacious and can easily sleep 10-15 people. There is a lower level family room with TV and a variety of gaming options, bedroom with 2 single beds, bath w/shower, and large laundry room. The main floor consists of a large dining and living area with fireplace with open viewing facing the lake. There is also a computer/TV room with a fold out couch, kitchen, half bath, and huge, gorgeous new master suite that includes a large office with a state of the art computer. The master suite also has a queen size bed and large spa bathroom with large double jacuzzi with bath going off to private deck overlooking beautiful flower garden and lake view; wonderful retreat after a busy day.

Neighborhood

We live on a lovely lake road and there is a wonderful walk to the local fields of the nearby campus of the University of Illinois at Springfield and Lincoln Land Community College. Rarely do we take that walk without witnessing herds of deer. There are acres there where we let our dogs roam free. The only reason to walk would be for exercise because our yard is more beautiful than any nearby space. With a wireless fence for the dogs they are able to roam free within the set boundary. We have a beautiful flower garden and a lovely tree-filled yard on a point in the lake with a boat house our children enjoy hanging out in. Ten to forty mile bike rides start at the end of the drive; as does a 9 mile run around a portion of the lake.

Springfield is the home of Abraham Lincoln and there are amazing Lincoln sites and museums to visit. The Amtrak train can take you to Chicago or St. Louis (or beyond). Springfield has a quaint downtown with the Old State Capitol and many unique shops and restaurants. In the larger Springfield area there are a many shopping and dining selections. You can find activities and day trips for any season. Horseback riding, hiking, theatre, farmers' markets, historical sights quaint towns with B+B's and more.

Springfield has an airport and we are located between the major hubs of St Louis and Chicago. If you are looking for the opportunity of living like an average American with a home and setting that are far above average, please contact us for more details.

About Us

We are a cardiologist and psychotherapist husband and wife team with a blended family of 9 children ages 4-21. We love to travel locally and abroad and are currently looking for an opportunity to exchange with a Cape Town area family for 2-4 weeks late Feb. 2009 to March 20, 2009. We will be traveling mainly with our 4 year old and might have our 14 and 18 year old sons joining us for 2 weeks. Our children are very well behaved and accustomed to travel.

Destination

We have currently put in our vacation time for approximately 2/21-3/21/2009 which will likely be approved. We are interested in the Cape Town area but would consider surrounding areas.
