Description

My Turkish Aegean summer house for yours.
Three bedroomed cosy summer house in a safe and beautifully remote Aegean getaway. With mantained beach, and sea side terraces, clean and cool Aegean swims. Located near the historic and scenic area of Assos with many nearby Ancient Greek ruins. The nearest is 8km (5miles). Striking views from house of the Greek island of Lesbos. Other nearby attractions include Troy, Assos, Babakale, all within 20min to 1.5 hours. Or if you want a longer outing: Efesus,Gokceada (Turkish island). The house has three bedrooms, fireplace, two shower rooms and an outdoor terrace. Fabulous views.

I am currently interested in SF for first two-three weeks of July 2007. But am open to all offers.

Neighborhood

This 3 bedroomed house provides an almost conflicting combination of atmospheres. Firstly it is set on a spacious condo development which has 100 units. The houses are in small clusters of 6 or 4.(Mine is in a 4-cluster) There is generous space between the clusters. Each house has an outdoor terrace area as well as small balconies off the bedrooms. each house has its own garden space. Yet, it is a very secluded cove. The nearest village is 3km away. The condo is surrounded by olive groves and it is not unusual to see villagers go and come to their fields by donkey. Sitting 8km to sea is the beautiful Greek island of Lesbos. It looks so close that one could swim, and yet it is a different country, a different continent. There is a constant sense of history and adventure. The surrounding area is full of Greek Ruins, the nearest is 12km at Smintheon. Nearby Babakale has an old Ottoman fortress and is the most westerly point of Turkey. A sister fortress, also built by the Ottomans broods on the oposite shore on Lesbos. The Aegean is always cool to swim in and is beautifully clean. The fields are covered with wild flowers in spring and the local markets (each village has a different day) are always a colorful and educational experience. Desserts made of cheese melted in sugar, stuffed vine leaves, the food, hospitality and general feeling of the area is one of total relaxation and well-being. My neighbors speek English fluently (one is a translator) and are masters in Turkish hospitality and ever so helpful without being overbearing or imposing. Want to set yourself an adventure? This could be it.

About Us

I am a non-Turk who came here for a short visit over 25 years ago and decided to stay! It wasn't even a decision, it just happened. Living here is so rewarding, people are friendly, helpful and Turkey constantly stimulates and then feeds my interests in design, photography, architecture, gardens and history. Every turn provides a new insight into the amazing history and gentle culture of this part of the world, be it Alexander the Great, Aristotle, the Crusaders, Ottomans, Selcuks, etc. they have all left a great legacy for us to enjoy here.
