Description

We have a modern semi-detached home, perfect for families. Downstairs is a porch, living room with two sofas, new modern kitchen diner (table seats 8) and a den, with sofa, TV, playstation etc. Doors from the dining area lead onto a neat back garden - lawn, shrubbery, shed, outdoor table and chairs, children's slide etc. Upstairs, the rooms are small but contemporary with a double room, a smaller room which just fits a double bed, and a medium sized child's room (decked out for a 3 year old boy), with a single bed, with spare bed underneath for guests. The decor is white, modern. There is one small bathroom with whirlpool bath and one small shower room - both white and navy. Our house has a grassy area to the front with a tree, a double driveway and views to the mountains of the Lake District. It is at the end of a modern estate with no main roads anywhere near. To the left of the house is a large field with a path that leads to a nature reserve.

Neighborhood

Our house has a nature reserve half a mile away. In the village there is a shop, a bakery, a post office, and about 4 pubs. It also has a lovely walk down by the riverside. Three miles east (and within takeaway delivery limits) is Cockermouth - the most gorgeous olde worlde town, with lovely restaurants, pubs and tourist attractions. Continue east, for 15 minutes from our home, driving parallel to Lake Bassenthwaite and under the shaddow of Skiddaw and you are in Keswick - the heart of the Lake District. Drive west from our home and within 10 minutes you are at the golden beaches of Allonby, looking out onto the Scottish hills. The coastal towns of Whitehaven, Workington and Maryport are all close by, and the border city of Carlisle is just 40 minutes away with Scotland right next door - close enough for an afternoon visit. Being in such a touristy place, there are tons of attractions for fellwalker, nature lovers but also for families - such as cycle paths, wildlife park, aquarium, castles, miniature railways, etc.

About Us

My husband and I are in our 30s, local, with a 3 year old son. I am a primary teacher and my husband works in a furniture shop. We have lived in this village for 10 years and love everything about it. We feel very grateful living in this part of the world, and whilst we are not really walkers or mountain climbers, we enjoy the scenery and the benefits of tourism - eg lovely cafes and restaurants, family attractions, etc. Our days off don't tend to coincide often, but when we do, we enjoy family days out together in the local area. In the evenings we tend to watch TV and films over a good bottle of wine and good food - we have a good quality surround sound system and plenty of DVDs. Anyone with families would enjoy our home, as we have plenty of games and toys to suit all ages, and the house is very child friendly.
