Description

The house dates from the 1850's and is part of a conversion from a 'Maltings', a building that used to produce malted cereals for the beer and whisky industry. The living area covers three floors and comprises three large double bedrooms plus large sleeping area in the mezzanine, two luxury bathrooms with one on-suite. The main living space is a great double height room, with exposed original oak beams. It houses a modern open plan kitchen, lounge and dining areas, with a large roof light to the rear and French doors to a Juliet balcony to the front. It is a characterful house to live in, light, airy and encourages you to spend time together.

Neighborhood

My immediate neighbourhood, Montpelier, is an arty bohemian mix of organic supermarkets, master bakers, funky restaurants with a great park (splash pool and good facilities for children) 5 minutes away, where people hang out, have coffee and cake from the cute tea stall, play frisbee, have barbeques and enjoy the sunshine, a climbing wall and the city farm and allotments all within five minutes.

I love living in Bristol city centre- it is a city that is dynamic, forward thinking and very interested in eco and community values. The city has great shopping, the longest independent shopping street in Europe, and is famous for ballooning, with many dawns being greated by a number of balloons in the sky.

Outdoor activites are numberous here - cycling, walking, all forms of sport, abseiling, kite flying, climbing, and then just further afield in either South Wales or on the coast of Devon, body boarding, surfing, and water skiing.

Bristol is a great city with lots of parks, a wealth of old buildings and a colourful history, lots to do, with many theatres, museums and galleries and local festivals

Further afield, you are a 15 minute train journey to Bath, which is a World Heritage Site as the city is so beautiful. South Wales is only 50 minutes drive away, including the capitol, Cardiff, and Devon a similar 1 1/2 hour drive. Both have beautiful beaches and coastlines to visit. London is a train journey of 1 1/2 hours with trains running every 30 minutes, and more locally the Cotswalds, the Malverns and the Chilterns are all lovely parts of old England to visit.

About Us

I work in media, running a radio station that braodcasts to Bristol and South Wales. We have two well behaved children, who are 11 and almost 15, who are outgoing, happy people. We are interested in both city life and enjoy county persuits - some of our favourite family memories have been a day rock pooling at the beach, with wide smiles!

Destination

We have a specific time period we would like to exchange houses for - we are visiting my sister in Brooklyn in August, and would love to exchange to be close to her neighbourhood. We will be in the States from 19th August 2008 until 1st September 2008 and would appreciate a house swap to accomodate some or all of that visit.

However, beyond that specific swap we are looking for, we would be flexible with dates and locations, as we would like to house swap to enjoy more new places to visit.
