Food and Wine - Adelaide has a diverse mix of bars, cafes and restaurants with food of all origins (eg Gouger St). At Central Market you can buy fresh produce from all regions and you can enjoy fantastic cellar door experiences at Australia’s top wine regions (Barossa Valley (1.2 hours), Clare Valley (1.5hrs) and McLaren Vale (30 mins)).
Adelaide is home to the world renowned Adelaide Festival of Arts and to the Fringe Festival which is second in the world only to the Edinburgh Festival.
Events and Sports - Cycling ProTour – the 2008 Adelaide “The Tour Down Under” was the first UCI ProTour event ever staged outside of Europe.
Other Travel - You can travel locally to Mount Gambier for the blue lake/caves, the Coorong for wildlife, the unique Flinders Ranges, Murray River for the house boats, Kangaroo Island for the wildlife and Yorke Peninsula for coastal ruggedness.
Or fly to Melbourne in 50 minutes, Sydney (1 hr 50 mins), Queensland (2 hrs 30 mins). We are central to visit tourist icons such as Uluru (Ayers Rock) and the Australian outback, Northern Territory. A train goes to Darwin (called The Ghan), 3 day trip, and the Sydney-Adelaide-Perth train (Indian Pacific), is another 3 day trip from east to west.
About Us
We are an Australian couple in our 50s, work part-time - one in Education, the other in Business Commerce. We love travel, history, watching movies and sport, spending time with our families and good coffee. We speak English and a little basic Spanish.
We would like to do a home exchange to Europe in 2009 and 2010. We are enthusiastic about travel, experiencing life in different environments, meeting new people and would treat your home as caringly as we do our own.
Destination
We wish to visit Spain as a first preference to see more of this interesting country and improve on our Spanish language. Italy, Portugal, UK and France are other preferences.
We have 2 cars available (a Holden Commodore -automatic and Ford Telstar -manual). We would prefer that vehicles not be used to cover the long distances encountered in Australia eg trips to the outback.
We have family living on farms in the country should you wish to visit to experience rural Australia (3 hour drive plus 1.5 hours on ferry)
We have golf sets and bicycles available for use.
The house is non-smoking with no pets. The garden plants are on a watering system.
Weather
We enjoy a Mediterranean climate with an average summer temperature of 30 degrees Celsius and an average winter temperature of 15 degrees Celsius.
Some very close-by unique experiences available are:
Cuddling a koala and hand feeding wallabies and kangaroos at the Cleland Conservation Park - view details at www.parks.sa.gov.au/Cleland/index.htm. We also have a map showing where you can walk near by our house (3Kms) to see koalas in the wild.
Swim with dolphins on a Temptation Sailing cruise - view www.dolphinboat.com.au.
