Description

Our flat is a large 1-bedroom with a sunroom/study. It's in an old art-deco building on the first floor in a block of twelve. It's sunny and secure and the neighbours are all pretty nice.

The rooms all have high ceilings, the bedroom and living room having ornate plastwrwork on their ceilings. The sunroom was probably once a balcony but has been glassed in. We use it as a study but last time we had guests we turned it into a second (rather small) bedroom.

We have wireless internet, a great stereo and a huge CD collection. Because TV in Australia is about as bad as it is where you live, we don't have one. Computers hook up to the stereo, however, if you're desparate for veg-out entertainment and can't be bothered walking downstairs to the cafes or beach.

The bedroom, living room and sunroom are connected by double doors which we like to keep open. We have great retro furniture - a black and white vinyl sofa, old lamps and wooden furniture i have hand-crafted myself.

The hall connects the living area to the bathroom and kitchen - both with black and white tiles. The kitchen has a washing machine and dryer but no diswasher (unfortunately!). The bathroom has a bath and separate toilet (with an over-lifesize photo of Britney on the wall!)

Rear access through the kitchen leads to the rear shared yard and lock-up garage containing our car.

Not that you need one, but our car is a 5-speed manual 2-door 4WD. It has all the mod-cons you need to get around.

Neighborhood

St kilda has been a holiday destination since Melbourne was first settled. Nowadays it's the travellers' hub. Within five minutes' walk from our place is St Kilda Beach, Luna Park, Acland St & Fitzroy St shops, cafes, bars and nightlife. The #96 and #16 tram are minutes away and take you into the CBD and beyond.
