Description

Welcome to our home in Rye, Colorado. Our mountain haven is an exceptionally pristine part of America. It is surrounded by the San Isabel National Forest which contains numerous trout streams, lightly traveled hiking trails, unsurpassed vistas, wildlife, wildflowers, mountain lakes and most importantly serenity. My wife and I have traveled throughout America and can honestly say that the beauty that surrounds our home is only equaled in few places.

The vista that sets the backdrop of our residence is Greenhorn Mt. which rises over 12,000 ft. above sea level. The top is accessible from a trail that starts ¼ mile from our porch. The better part of the trail is paralleled by a trout stream. http://www.sangres.com/mountains/greenhorn.htm
If you aren’t ready for a large hike, than a parking area close to the top can be reached by using Offer Creek Road that is just a mile past a local landmark, “Bishops Castle” that is a 25 minute drive. http://www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/COBEUcastle.html

To the east of our home lays the plains of Colorado. Our home sits at 7,500 ft and the plains fall away from rolling hills and mesas to an elevation of 5,000 feet. In the summer months the sunrise is brilliant and can be viewed from the main level master deck or the upstairs master suite. The front of our home faces the south and is home to our flower gardens and a wide variety of friendly humming birds. Try sitting on the porch for a while and hold something bright red for a few minutes. Chances are that a humming bird will fly right up to your hand looking for a sweet treat. If you’re looking for a fantastic experience to unwind from the common stresses of civilization than you won’t need to travel more than 45 minutes from our home once you’ve arrived. If you’d like to experience other unique aspects of Colorado, I’ve left a series of links to explore. Most of these attractions are within one to two hours maximum drive time.

The weather in the local area experiences above average precipitation for Colorado. We usually experience brief afternoon thunder showers in the summer months. If you enjoy a late night light show from above you’ll probably not be disappointed. June highs are mainly in the 70’s with lows in the upper 50’s to low 60’s. In July and August those temperatures can be adjusted 10 degrees higher. The nights are perfect for taking a walk and seeing absolutely brilliant starlit skies. We have very little light pollution. We enjoy sitting on our back porch in the evenings and listening to the gurgle of our irrigation stream and the sound of the breezes caressing the Ponderosa and Aspens.

My family’s home was designed from a 1920’s California Craftsman home and has room to accommodate up to 12 visitors without being cramped. We have two master suites that each has a private bath. The main level master has an adjoining study which is currently occupied by our youngest son / twin bed. The second master is located in the upper level and has a private loft. The lower level has three separate rooms with two full beds and one queen. There are three full baths and a powder room. If needed, we can set up an additional king bed in the loft area. We have an excellent treadmill and universal weights and free weights for exercise. Although we prefer outdoor activities on our covered patios or decks, we do have a theater room with a varied collection of movies for children and adults.

Neighborhood

Rye, Colorado is nestled in the foothills of the Greenhorn Mountains. Our home is on a ridge with views looking toward the mountains and towards the plains. There are lots of trails in the area with the closet 1/4 mile down the street.

Things to do:
Slide the natural rock water slides at San Isabel and then dine at the lodge and fish the lake.
Sled the sand dunes.
Fish the many streams.
Hike area trails and view wildlife and flowers.
Tour Cave of the Winds in Colorado Springs.
Visit historical museums in Pueblo.
View Bishops Castle, just beyond Lake Isabel.
Picnic at the local mountain park, a 2/3 mile walk.
Swimming in Colorado City, 8 miles or Pueblo with waterslide at Lake Pueblo.
Horseback riding. (We have three, depending on your experience)

About Us

Craig teaches CAD and Donna works as a media specialist at the local high school. We have four beautiful and respectful children. All are very good students. Kae is 16 and is our horse enthusiast. Gage is 13 and enjoys wrestling. Abbey is 10 and swims like a fish. Trevor is 8 and is also a wrestler. We are a very clean family and do not smoke. We will take great care of your home and leave things neat.

Destination

We can do a non-simultaneous exchange but need to make arrangements well in advance. The dates are flexible but we are hoping to travel to Florida this summer in early June. We could do another trip anywhere beachy later in the summer. We are usually available during Spring break, Christmas, or summer.
