Description

Impressive and retro dutch barge from the 1920's, moored in central London on the river Thames. She is moored on a tiny dock just off the Thames with just 4 other boats, which means that there is no passing river-traffic to make the boat bob about too much. We are in such a quiet location, yet so very central-it's fantastic.

The boat itself has recently renovated separate skippers quarters, a wheel-house with ship's wheel and bell, a large living area and open-plan kitchen with original wooden floors, the boat has a large bathroom with shower and bath (thought I should put that in as everyone asks me if there are washing facilities!!?), there is a master bedroom with kingsize bed made from reclaimed railway sleepers, there is a 2nd and a 3rd bedroom too, one has a double bed and some bespoke furnishings in a former artist's studio and the single has a day bed.

I'm very into retro lighting from the 1960's and eames furniture, so there are bits and pieces that are unique....but my home is welcoming, cool and spacious...which is unusual for London. Skylights everywhere so it is light and airy, the occasional port-hole....a large deck area for barbeques or sunbathing.

The engine does not currently work, so no cruising the Thames I'm afraid!!

Neighborhood

Unbelievably quiet given how central she's moored within London. One minute's walk to the lovely Battersea park and peace pagoda, the same distance to the stunningly majestic Albert Bridge linking Battersea with Chelsea and Fulham. 7 minutes walk from the world-famous King's Road, with it's cafe culture, nightlife and designer boutiques. With South Kensington and Knightsbridge all within walking distances, you have world-class shopping and museums and art dealers on your doorstep. Visit the natural history museum and the science museum just 20mins walk from the boat, plus you have the V&A and an army museum, gorgeous river-side walks, the chelsea flower show during May just 5-10mins walk away. The area is brimming with possibilities, and is just 20mins from Sloane Square tube station so if you need to access the rest of London it's easily accessible too.

So whilst you are passing the famous chelsea pensioners on their way to buy a paper (and remembering to say hello to them!) you'll really feel the benefits of being surrounded by historical buildings, museums, the river and wide open spaces to offer an oasis of greenery in this fast-paced city.

About Us

I'm a Clinical Psychologist (please don't let that put you off!), I'm hard working and very committed to my work with kids and families and the diversity of the populations that I work with in London. My partner is in marketing and also studying for his MBA. We love to travel, hence trying house swap for the first time (!), and between us we speak some German (both of us), some Spanish (me), and Dutch and Afrikaans (him).

We are interested in trying new things (I would really love to stay in a cave please !!!), we both love the sun and the outdoors, we like being active, walking, dancing, socialising, but really want to find somewhere to relax. We are both home owners and very respectful of peoples' privacy and property.

Destination

All dates are flexible, just will need sufficient time to organise time off work.

Could always organise a non-simultaneous exchange if it suited both parties.

Open to all suggested destinations.

Occasionally if an exchange is not viable for us in terms of work commitments here in London, we can sometimes organise to rent the barge to you as a holiday let. this has worked very well in the past.
