Description

Our home in Italy is a simply furnished, traditional stone farmhouse in the mountains of southern Tuscany. It has a large terrace with a mountain view, a gushing spring, a fireplace, and is surrounded by fields and trees. It is a 15 minute walk (uphill) to a medieval village with a piazza, slow food restaurants, stores, bars, gelato, etc.. It is off the tourist track and quiet but lively, with a music festival and food festivals in the summer, skiiing in the winter and mushroom hunting in the chestnut forests in the fall. It is 1 hour's drive to the beach, to the Etruscan sites, hot springs and wine country. It is 2 hours south of Siena and 3 hours north of Rome.

Neighborhood

This is a country house. As you walk to town you pass the villagers' gardens and sheep, an ancient fishpond and buildings that date from the 11th century. There are stone walls and fireflies hovering in the greenery in spring and summer. People are friendly. There is bus transportation everywhere but a car is more convenient.

About Us

We are an older couple, a teacher and a builder-designer-artist, with 5 grown or almost grown children, non-smokers, interested in eccology,art,travel, food, gardening and sustainability.

Destination

Can be non-simultaneous, dates are flexible, we also have our primary home, a large house in Northern California, near a Waldorf school, in the country, near coast and Redwoods, that we could offer.
