Description

A recently renovated 19th century Orangerie is our home. It sits on the 56 acre estate of an old chateau which is walled, quiet and very beautiful. The Orangerie looks out to lawns and forest from a private corner of the park with the chateau in the background. The simply furnished interior of two bedrooms, large living dining area and small kitchen and bath, is characterized by high ceilings, large windows and warm color. There is a laundry, storage area on the floor above.

The chateau is used intermittently by visitors who rent it on a weekly basis. It is accessed by a separate gate from our own.

Neighborhood

The village bakery is only a few minutes walk from the chateau gate along with the Thursday morning market, small grocery, hardware store, pharmacy, restaurant and bank. A 15 min. drive West takes you to the ancient city of Poitiers with its winding medieval streets, markets and historic buildings and East to the charming market town of Chauvigny dominated by its castle ruins.

Within a half hour drive are to by found abbeys, chateaux, charming villages, golf, horseback riding, swimming and kayaking. Easy day trips can be made to the chateaux and vineyards of the Loire Valley and the beaches of the Atlantic coastline.

Poitiers is accessed directly by plane from London, is on the A-10 autoroute and is an hour and a half from Paris on the TGV.

About Us

We are Americans from Seattle. I am an architect and my wife is an artist. Our older boy is studying acting in Los Angeles and our 15 year old boy is at boarding school in England. We have owned the chateau for about 6 years and enjoy having a home in France. We would like to have the same sense of the home base in other countries, particularly England while our son in at school there.

We exchanged our home in Seattle some years ago and had a great experience.

Destination

We are looking for a place in South-East England optimally in East Sussex to be relatively near our son who is at school near Eastbourne. Our exact dates are flexible but we couldn't start before June 1st or end after July 4th.
