Description

The villa is found on the edge of a hillside development a mile from the village of San Miguel de Salinas on Spain's southern Costa Blanca. It stands in a large mature private garden with uninterrupted views across surrounding countryside toward the castle (now a restaurant). The terrace is the ideal spot for breakfast after an early morning swim in the private pool which is surrounded by a spacious patio area. A rooftop solarium offers further al-fresco living space, perfect for evening star-gazing over a glass of Rioja.
Inside, the villa is well appointed and comfortably furnished. There is a roomy lounge-dining room with TV and DVD player. The light and airy kitchen is fully-equipped with electric cooker, microwave, washing-machine, dishwasher and fridge-freezer.
The master bedroom, overlooking the pool has an en-suite shower-room. There are also two twin rooms plus a family bathroom. All bedrooms are air-conditioned and have ample storage space.

Neighborhood

Villas Maria is a modern hillside development of detached villas. Some are holiday homes like ours. However, many of our immediate neighbours are resident, so we really have a home from home with lots of friends when we are in Spain. The majority are English speaking and are always very helpful when friends stay at our house.
The popular and growing village of San Miguel de Salinas is just over a mile from the villa and offers a wide range of facilities including restaurants, supermarkets, bars, banks, chemists, health-centre, church etc. The lively weekly market takes place on Wednesdays and is always worth a visit. There are frequent local fiestas which are usually based around the church calendar and involve street processions, fireworks, dancing on the church square. To be honest, San Miguel is not a pretty holiday postcard village but it is a real Spanish place, not a holiday resort. This is why people want to live there.
However, when you need a little cultural distraction, then the university towns of Orihuela, Elche, Murcia and Cartagena are all easily acessible by car and have interesting medieval quarters,gracious squares, elegant architecture etc.
Very important to us and most visitors is easy access to the coast and the glorious Blue Flag beaches of the Costa Blanca. The nearest beach is about 5 miles from the villa and there are plenty to choose from.

About Us

We are both university lecturers, recently retired. Pam was a primary school teacher before moving into teacher education. We have two grown-up sons and two young grandchildren.
John is a keen golfer and Pam does aerobics,yoga,Pilates and swims. We enjoy walking and travel. We also both love sea and the beach.
We bought our villa seven years ago as our blissful escape from the stresses of work during the vacations. Since finishing work we spend longer periods in Spain and have also recently visited Italy and New Zealand.
When our children were young we did house exchanges in France and USA using our UK home which were very successful. We are very keen to start again and see more of the world.
