Description

The house provides a comfortable and quiet location for a holiday on the Isle of Wight. It is ideal for families who enjoy the unique combination of seaside, countryside and outdoor life.

The house has full central heating and is double glazed throughout. There are three double bedrooms and one single. One of these double bedrooms has it's own lounge, bathroom and small kitchen. Ideal for older relatives or teenagers who might need their own space! We call this The Annex.

The rest of the house comprises of a good sized kitchen, dining room with a table to seat 8 people and a spacious lounge with two double sofas, TV, stereo, etc. Both lounge and dining room have sliding doors to the courtyard and back garden. The Annex lounge also has sliding door acccess to the back garden.
The master bedroom has an en suite bathroom with shower. The double and single bedrooms share the other bathroom which has a bath and shower.

The front garden has a Mediterranean feel and the back garden has a small stand of olive trees. To the side of the house there is a large grass area suitable for all kinds of ball games.

So in total the house has:

This is a very comfortable and pleasant house with easy access to the outdoors. Great for BBQs in summer but also warm and pleasant in the winter.

Neighborhood

If you enjoy the outdoor life the Isle of Wight is an ideal location. With one coast facing the English Channel and Atlantic Ocean and the other facing the Solent and the mainland the Island has a different atmosphere to the UK mainland.

Landmarks include Freshwater Bay, The Needles, Tennyson Down, Fort Victoria, Alum Bay Cliffs and Yarmouth Castle but there are other places like Newtown Creek - an unspoilt haven for wildlife, Hannover Point with it's dinosaur footprints on the rocks, the ancient standing stones at Mottistone and Hulverstone and beaches ranging from safe and sandy to wild and rocky!

It is only a short walk (5-8 mins) to the beach at Freshwater Bay and there are many walking and cycling routes from the house.

But there is also a supermarket within easy walking distance in Freshwater and a lovely old-fashioned Post Office and corner shop near the Bay. The area around the Bay is also good for restaurants and pubs. The Red Lion in the old part of Freshwater is a very pleasant 15 minute walk and the Sandpipers and Albion pubs are close by at the Bay. These all serve good food.

In Freshwater village there are takaways a sports centre with a swimming pool and a skate park outside.

This is a low crime area - the sort of place where stolen bicycles are news in the local newspaper. The roads are not too busy and walking is pleasant - as is cycling.

In Newport (Capital town of the IOW) 20 mins by car - we have a thriving Arts Centre at the Quay which has a fun programme of events AYR and a Farmers Market with IOW produce every Friday.

Osborne House, Queen Victorias Family Home on the IOW hosts a Victorian Xmas month which is fascinating and Caribrooke Castle is wonderfully atmospheric with very tall ramparts and a well worked by donkeys still. Charles Ist was imprisoned there before his execution.... We even have a Roman Villa so there is loads of history and traditional English villages.

About Us

Chris is a Garden Designer - http://www.chrisbarnesgardens.co.uk - and we have the front garden planted in the Southern Hemisphere style with Tree Ferns, Astelias, Callistemon, Agapanthus etc., This tells you that the IOW (Isle of Wight) has a very mild temperate coastal climate so in Nov- Dec although it's winter and the days are shorter you can still get out for bike rides and walks. The hardy Brits even surf, kite-surf and sail all year round in wetsuits as the conditions are often better in the winter.

We like to cycle and live in the heart of the Cycle and Walking Trails ( check out www.iowwalkingfestival.co.uk and www.iowcycling fesitval.co.uk ) so you can walk and cycle straight from the house up onto the trails.

Barney works as an IT Consultant - http://www.catnet.co.uk - and we both work from home but he is a keen surfer, golfer and footballer - still playing 5-a-side age 54. If you are a keen football fan Portsmouth is just a ferry ride away, have good a Premiership team and would really give you a flavour of English matches. We also have a large, flat 'playing area' next to the house . . .


Destination

We are interested an exchange on the east coast of Aus between Brisbane and Sydney to meet up with our sons who are travelling in the area. However we are open to suggestions out of this area/country/continent . . .
