Description

Our family home is located in a very quiet, green neighbourhood, only 4 kms from the centre of Papeete, and a variety of beaches and wonderful surf spots. The house consists of 4 bedrooms plus a playroom with bed(s). There is one cot for a baby. There is one bathroom with shower and toilet, 2 other toilets, plus another bathroom with bath and hand basin only. Our swimming pool of 6 m X 3.5 m X 1.1 metres deep (and above the ground) is essential in this hot weather for those late afternoon swims after a day of sight-seeing. We have a small view to the sea and across to the island of Moorea, and a very big garden. Our house is a child's paradise with a large selection of books, toys, games, scooters, bikes, trampoline etc, and at the same time we have an excellent French/English audio visual library for both adults and children.

Neighborhood

Although we live in a very peaceful place, the centre of the city is just 4 kms away, which is where you have the market, tourist office, cultural centre, art exhibitions, craft centres, pearl museum etc. This is also where the ferries for Moorea and some of the other islands leave from. If you are beach-goers there are a number of very good black sand beaches not far away, including the famous Point Venus where the Bounty first landed and where Captain Cook charted the Passage of Venus. This is great family beach and quite safe. You can also do some snorkelling and even surfing on the little reef there. The best snorkelling on the island of Tahiti is probably at a beach called PK18, which has white sand and coral and is approximately 25 minutes drive away. The best surfing is at Papenoo (20 minutes drive) or Papara for the more experienced. The large Carrefour supermarket is at the bottom of our road, as are various cafes and restaurants; and the Radisson hotel is only 2 kms away. The beach by the Radisson is usually more suited to teenage/adult swimmers although at certain times of year it's quite calm. Public transport in the form of Le Truck (a truck type bus which is slowly being replaced by air conditioned buses) is very regular and a pleasant 10-15 minute walk away. I guess this a good place to mention the friendliness of local people: should you get stuck or lost, people are usually happy to point you in the right direction or even take you there!

About Us

We are a French/English speaking family with 'Papa' being the French element and 'Mama' the New Zealand/Dutch combination. We have two young children living with us and an older son at school in New Zealand. We are here for a four year term while he works for the French High Commission. Our interests here are quite simply the beaches! But surprisingly there are plenty of other things to do, with regular artisan exhibitions, shows (both local and visiting acts), film festivals, Chinese new year, and of course the big Heiva dance and song festival, running throughout the month of July, and we do take advantage of these activities as well.

Destination

Option 1: We are looking for accomodation for 4 people in Noord Brabant (as close to Woudrichem as possible - but not essential) in the Netherlands . A non-simultaneous exchange is definitely an option, however we have no definite plans for other travel.

Option 2: This time we would like to spend a few days in Paris while my husband (a career diplomat) takes part in a concours with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Option 3: During the last two weeks of June we intend to be in the South of France most of the time, near La Seyne sur Mer/Les Sablettes, if anyone has a house they would like to swap in this area?
