Description

This 3 bedroom, 3 bath house has a unique design, with the living space on the second and third floors. From each window, guests look down on a tree-top garden, with native fruit and flowers that attracts bird life as well as forest mammals like the great ant-eater and the opossum. The best views, though, are from the living room and the master bedroom, which look down on the river more than 400 feet below, and over acres of forest. There are also many trails that lead down to the river.
The Swiss architect and engineer that built the house in 2000 called it the « Tropicasa » for the design features that make this home so comfortable. Windows on each side allow for ventilation that keeps the house cool, while the unique « hanging structure » makes the house earth-quake proof. It has all amenities including washer/dryer, dishwasher, stereo, internet access, Jacuzzi, and a terrace with BBQ.

Neighborhood

Atenas is a small town about 24 Km. from San Jose and on the way to the Carrara and Manuel Antonio National Park, and the beaches of Jaco and Quepos. This was the old road where the coffee filled oxcarts passed on its way to the port of Puntarenas where it was shipped to Europe. The town conserves some of its 19th century atmosphere. This location has several advantages: its elevation provides a wonderful climate which averages 25 degrees celsius year round with low humidity. The surrounding mountains covered with tropical vegetation make for great hiking and splendid views.
Most tours originating from San Jose, this is a central location for touring our beautiful country: we are a 1.5-hour drive from Pacific beaches; 3-hour drive from Atlantic coast; 45 minutes from Poas and Irazu volcanoes; 35 minutes from cloud forests.
For those who would need only two bedroom house, we also have a property in Santa Ana, only 15 min. from San Jose.

About Us

We are a family of four with two girls: one 6 yrs, the other 3. We have a family business aimed at educating about investing. We enjoy outdoor and cultural activities and spend lots of time with our children. We speak French, English and Spanish, so please feel free to answer in any of these languages.

This year, we would like to travel with some family and meet our friends who will be in Marseille. Our friends have a 3 year old and a 6 month old baby. Therefore, we would be a total of 6 adults, 3 children and one baby. (We have inflatable beds for kids). Our preference is for the vicinity of Marseille, or another city that offers some cultural activities in Provence. We would be interested in a car exchange as well, and can offer a 7 seat 4x4 that is ideal for visiting Costa Rica.
We speak French, English and Spanish.

Destination

We would like to stay one month in the south of France (preferably August, but it could be September), as close as possible to Marseille or a city nearby. We can offer several options for those interested in a shorter stay in Costa Rica. Among the options, we can offer access to our beach cabin in Jaco.
For this property, the exchange does not need to be simultaneous but the dates could not be later than our travel, i.e. end of August.
