Neighborhood

Beautiful New England woodland with small farms. In the neighborhood there is wonderful walking on country roads (very little traffic) or through woodland trails. Beautiful streams and reservoir. Good biking, hiking, walking. Houses but not close together. Amherst is only 8 minutes to drive. There are 5 colleges in this area - rather a mecca of culture and activity any time of the year. Great cafe's, book stores, movie theater. Wonderful day trips all around, very New England. Vermont is 45 min drive. Boston is 1.5 hours, New York City is 3 hours. There is a train station in town. We've lived here 15 years and I think of doing a bed and breakfast in the house as my children vacate their rooms. Its really a nice area. You'll love seeing the Northeast U.S. from here as a base.

About Us

My two daughters (19 and 13) and I live here with a student renter during the school year. We have a dog and two cats. This has been our home for 16 years and we love it in all the seasons. My older daughter has been to Ecuador twice and Spain. She goes to school in New Jersey majoring in International Relations and minoring in Spanish. My younger daughter really wants to travel the world, and she loves music. She attends a performing arts school This summer she wants to go to Nova Scotia, maybe learning to play Cape Breton Fiddle. She always talks about going to Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii... I spent time working in East Africa with my former husband before we settled down. I have also travelled to Israel and Greece. I am a speech therapist. And I love to make scrapbooks when I have the chance.

Destination

We really want to spend some time in Nova Scotia this summer preferably Cape Breton so my daughter can hear some of the wonderful music. It is more than likely just the two of us as my older daughter may be in Maine working. If you have a small family you would be able to stay here with us even when we are home, so the exchange wouldn't have to be the exact same dates.
