Description

Our apartment is 160Sqm and covers two floors. Downstairs we have a beautiful living room and dining room joined together by stained glass sliding doors (a real Amsterdam townhouse feature). Our very large kitchen opens onto the dining room. We also have a small toilet and a large office room ( which can also sleep two people bringing capacity up to 7 if necessary). This floor is very light and airy with large windows and French doors, and with sunlight streaming through it all the time. A small balcony runs alongside the kitchen and dining room and in summer we sometimes sit out there for an evening drink.
Upstairs we have a very large master bedroom, a large second bedroom, a bathroom comprising shower, toilet and sink. In addition we have a third bedroom with en-suite bathroom ( bath and sink).
The house is newly done up; we bought two years ago and redecorated extensively. It is unusually large for Amsterdam houses.

Neighborhood

Our neighbourhood the Old West isone of the most up and coming areas in Amsterdam. The road we live on borders the Vondelpark Amsterdam's largest and most famous park. The Vondelpark has cafes and lots of things to do especially in the summer with many free events going on. The neighbourhood is very lively and fun but not touristy or noisy. There are plenty of great shops especially lots of little grocers, as well as good market close by. We are a ten minute walk from the Rijksmuseum and the museum district and ten minutes walk from the Leidseplein. This is a great neighbourhood for families with kids,there are lots of families here and there is plenty to do. Our street has a tramline running through it which means one can get to Amsterdam Centraal station in 15 minutes.

About Us

We are both university lecturers in anthropology at the University of Amsterdam and newcomers to the city, ourselves being Danish (Thomas) and British-Sri Lankan ( Sharika). We have a teenage daughter and son and a new baby on its way. We are hoping to swap our lovely house for a nice place in the countryside where we can take our children for a summer break.

Destination

We would like a house rather than apartment which is baby friendly. We are looking for somewhere warm and sunny and preferably in the countryside.
