Description

Casa Tranquila, our beautiful, spacious (2,500 sqft), sunny home is located in the Centro Historico of the "Jewel of Colonial Mexico"...two blocks to the Jardin, the main square, set back from the street up a gated, private passage way.
There is a large flower filled patio with two seperate seating areas for relaxing and entertaining ...surrounded by bouganvillea, a grand old mesquite tree and hundreds of plants and flowers.
The ground floor rooms all let out onto the patio....the great kitchen tiled in colonial earth tones and an adjoining dining room large enough for dinner parties with new and old friends. The master bedroom and huge tiled bathroom are also downstairs. This bedroom has two double beds, gas fireplace, cable TV and sitting area.
Upstairs are the adjoining living rooms with spectacular views of the central part of town with its many wonderful church steeples as well as the western mountains...all seen from the big windows as well as the little balcony. Two of the sofas can be converted into small single beds. The living rooms are stocked with books, original art, oriental rugs, stereo, cable TV, DVD, VCR, music and movie libraries....all the comforts of home.
Next to the living rooms is the second bedroom with a double bed and its own tiled bathroom with a shower.
The artist's studio is on the second floor and is already stocked with two easles.
The roof top has a gazebo and cactus garden with fabulous 360 degree views...great for sunbathing or sipping margaritas while enjoying a gorgeous sunset!

Our house comes with all utilities, a part-time housekeeper twice a week for light housekeeping, VoIP telephone for free calls to the USA and Canada as well as a land line for local calls, free high speed internet and cable TV.

Neighborhood

Casa Tranquila is about as centrally located as can be.....two blocks to the Jardin and produce, artisan or flower markets. It is one block from the famous Academia Hispano Americana language school and three blocks from the Bellas Artes art school. It is close to great shopping, fabulous restaurants, art galleries as well theaters. A short taxi ride will take you to play golf or tennis, ride horses, take a hot air balloon ride or hike and rock climb in the Botanical Gardens as well as spend a day relaxing at the local hot springs.
San Miguel de Allende is a historical monument and as such very unspoiled....all the streets are cobblestone, all the houses are painted in beautiful colonial colors, there are no traffic lights, fluorecent lighting or modern signage for businesses. It is very much like a beautiful little European city.

About Us

My husband is a 63 year old retired psychologist and part time college professor who is now a full time painter. I am 55 and an artist as well as the full time gardener. We have four grown children who live in New York City and Paris and love visiting them. We lived in Bucks County Pennsylvania until our move to San Miguel eight years ago where we now live full time except when traveling. I speak fluent Spanish and my husband is struggling to master it....however, you do not need to speak Spanish fluently to visit or even live in San Miguel as many people here speak English and are very good at sign language!

Destination

We want to go to NYC in May 2008, however, we are interested in exchanging our home for places in Rome, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona in July, August, October, November or December.
