Description

Remodeled farm house in semi-secluded country location down short gravel road. One and one-half acre lot backing up to an orchard with neighbors at least an acre away. Three and a half bath, four bedrooms: two queens, a double, and a set of bunk beds or a double futon, whichever you prefer. One large master bedroom, but if used by three couples, each bedroom would be on separate floor and have it's own bath. We have 300 days of sunshine a year and a pool with deck to enjoy it and gaze at the stars at night. Large living, kitchen, and dining rooms plus eating area in kitchen. Family room with woodstove, games, puzzles in basement. Several reading areas, laundry, mud/road bike room. Double garage with bike repair area. Huge wrap around deck/porch with several tables and large Weber BBQ. Patio under trees in front. Large yard for football and baseball games, just have to watch out for sprinklers. Volleyball yard, too. We do not watch much TV, so have only one older one with reception of local stations. There are enough other things to do here that you won't need it! We do have wireless internet for communication and news. Most cell phones work well here. Pictures coming soon.

Neighborhood

South central Washington State in quaint rural town in the heart of the Columbia Valley American Viticulture Area 3 hours from Seattle. The Yakima Valley is projected to become the next Napa Valley, so come now before the two new destination resorts are completed. Nine wineries within five miles, more than sixty within an hour. The local Rattlesnake Hills AVA hosts a number of fun events throughout the year and limos are available for transport. Excellent road cycling right from our door, with many views of Mt Adams and Mt Rainier from area roads. Depending on time of year, pick fresh apples, Rainier cherries, and grapes from surrounding orchards and vineyards, and walnuts from our own trees. Day trips to Mt Rainier National Park and the Columbia Gorge with world class kite and sailboarding, and more wineries. Good fly fishing in Yakima river and several others nearby. Several excellent restaurants in Yakima 20 miles away, great Mexican food right here, adequate grocery store in our village, and fresh fruit and vegetable stands summer through fall. In winter, skiing is 1.25 hours away at White Pass, a family friendly ski area where Olympians Phil and Steve Maher grew up.

About Us

Our family includes our three grown children, who would be part of our exchange group, and our fourteen year old daughter. We have lived in the Yakima Valley for twenty plus years and would have a hard time moving anywhere else. You will see why if you come! Mark is an avid road cyclist and wine taster, Laurie likes to walk the orchards and river-like canal near our home, and we all ski in winter. We have lived in and traveled to Africa several times, including summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro, so are open to more rustic exchanges. We both use Spanish in the clinics where we work, so are capable of managing conversations. Our household includes pets. The two cats live in and outside the house and we would need you to feed them. Please don't exchange with us if you don't like cats. The dogs have a kennel outside, except the very old, very large, very friendly one who roams the premises. They would be cared for by the young man who keeps the yard. We have a number of flowers in pots and gardens in summer, so may ask you to water a few several times.

Destination

Washington, DC area, including nearby areas in Virginia. Would be interested in 2-3 days near Washington and several in the Shenandoah area or someplace between the two for the entire stay. We are very open to non-simultaneous exchanges, though would need notice well in advance.
