Description

A fully restored and renovated Victorian detached house standing on nearly 2 acres of land in Scariff, a small town in County Clare in the West of Ireland. The house has five bedrooms (four doubles and one single/double), one ensuite bathroom, one large family bathroom, two reception rooms with old-style fireplaces, a large fully equiped, modern kitchen and dining area with Aga.

Neighborhood

The house is a two-minute walk to Scariff which has shops, pubs, a bank, library and other amenities. Also a short walk away is the Scariff Harbour on Scariff River, which meanders into Lough Derg. The picturesque lakeside towns of Mountshannon and Killaloe are each 10 minutes' drive away. There is a 19-hole golf course in the area and opportunities for boating and sightseeing. Limerick is 40 minutes' drive, Ennis 30 minutes and Galway 1 hour and 15 minutes. The coast, the Burren and Cliffs of Moher are 1 hour and 15 minutes. The people are warm and hospitable, with a lively weekend nightlife. East Clare is well known for its traditional Irish music and local musicians can be found playing in the pubs in Scariff and other nearby locations.

About Us

We are an English family who settled in Ireland ten years ago after living for a long time in Switzerland. We bought an old house and completely renovated it. We are both freelance communication consultant. We have four children, two of whom have already left home, and two of whom are teenagers at the local school. We have a dog (a Weimeraner who lives outdoors all day and comes into the area behind the back door at night but not into the main part of the house), two cats and a rabbit. Depending on who is interested, we would either kennel the dog or leave her with you. The cats and rabbit are not trouble as they live outdoors and only need feeding. We are very involved in community life, Nick coaches rugby, Christina does the local newsletter, Scariff News (www.scariff.com), and is involved in the organisation of a local festival in August.

Destination

Would like an exchange preferably with a private swimming pool and close to a beach (for Italy, Portugal and France). For Switzerland, we would like to be in the Geneva-Lausanne area. Need to sleep 8 people.
