Description

Solidly built 1950's Cape with hardwood floors, real wood doors and plaster but also some modern openness.
House is 1500 SF plus 500 SF walk-out basement. 2 large open rooms plus half-bath downstairs. Kitchen island between Kitchen and Dining makes for nice casual space and comfortably-large Living Room is 12 x 24 and has fire-view wood stove. House is older but some modern touches and is cozy. Possible to have many people inside and milling about.
Upstairs is 3 bedrooms and a full bath.
Off of back of house is 16' x 16' deck that is 7' above the backyard and very pleasant for eating or relaxing under and within the broadleaf canopy - only one house in view. Most pleasant outdoor climate is spring and fall but early summer may be best.
Air conditioning is 2 window units - one that does the downstairs and another that cools the master bedroom. With fans it is possible to bring the coolness to the other bedrooms but some may not prefer to choose this house in August if they need all the bedrooms. Temperatures swing greatly day-to-night (and even day-to-day) most of the year but August can stay pretty humid (and/or hot) and not cool down at night like at most other times of the year.

Neighborhood

House is part of a neighborhood of half-acre lots, most with similar small houses. This lot is quarter-acre in size. All trees in the neighborhood are climax growth (80'-100') maples and oaks for a shaded, settled feel. Each house seems sheltered by the trees and the houses do not appear to be on top of each other at all - in the middle of summer the foliage is thick enough that neighboring houses almost fade from view altogether.
Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge almost all year long is usually a shallow pond/lake and home to many creatures, most notably birds. A short walk down the street, it is a great, calming retreat removed from everything, and is good exercise any day of the year.
Very nice 1.25 mile walk into Concord Center, although biking is faster and also quite lovely. Concord and neighboring towns of Lexington, Carlisle, Lincoln, Sudbury, etc. are some of the oldest and prettiest in the state, with many historic houses and centers and dense Colonial villages surrounded by rolling rural farmland.
Visitors enjoy Concord and its central location. 12 miles from Boston. Ten minutes to Lexington. 5 mintes to Minuteman National Park and its Visitor Center. 1.25 miles from Concord Center and famous houses (Thoreau, Alcotts, Emerson, etc) and a nice small town Museum. Wildlife refuge down the street. 3 rivers to canoe on, many bike trails for mountain bikes. Commuter train (1.75 miles) to Boston and all its sites. Possible to do all by foot and bike but car is likely the best choice.

About Us

I am an architect, who designs institutional, civic and educational buildings, also the occassional house. My wife works with children. We have two of our own, born in 1997 and 2000, who take up most of our time.
We enjoy the arts. We like relaxing vacations, near the beach or water; I enjoy boating and particularly sailing. We have been to Europe and Central and South America and enjoy places that are not America as well as some places in America.
I have some German and enjoy struggling with my worse Italian. My son is quite enamored of getting to Japan.
