Description

Two-level victorian rowhouse in historic/re-developing Shaw neighborhood in NW Washington DC. Originally built in 1900, gutted and redesigned by two architects in 2006. 11 foot ceilings and 7 foot windows allow for lots of natural light and give the master bedroom a treetop view. The rowhouse has a large and airy combined living/dining room with cozy conversation area and abundant seating for 8+ plus a dining table that can easily accomodate the same. The chef's kitchen is well-equipped with gas stove, dishwasher, many cooking tools and other conveniences. The master suite can sleep two in the queen-size bed. There are two smaller bedroom/study combinations that share another bathroom: One has a futon bed that can sleep two and the other a single bed.

Walking distance and easy access:

3 blocks/7 min at leisurely walking pace to Shaw and Mt Vernon Convention Center Metro Stations (green/yellow lines). The Metro (www.wmata.com) is DC's excellent public transportation system, ranked 3rd in the U.S. after New York City and Portland, Oregon.

< 5 minutes walk to supermarket & locally owned coffee shop.

15 minute walk to more coffee/tea shops and Chinatown nightlife.

20 minute walk to National Archives, National Gallery of Art and all the other National Mall attractions, Shakespeare Theater and others.

14th street art gallery scene is 8 blocks away, with openings many Saturday nights.

Dupont Circle (restaurants & more galleries) is also a very short (12 block) bus ride away.

Just across the street is a local city recreation center with children's programs, tennis courts, greens, basketball, etc.

Central Arlington and Alexandria are usually 15 minutes away by car, since Interstate 395 is only 8 blocks away. Freeway access is scarce in DC, so this is a real plus in terms of reducing the amount of street traffic that must be endured if you plan to explore outside the city.

Neighborhood

The neighborhood is full of churches, and individuals from many different walks of life. There are real estate moguls, local entrepreneurs and restaurant-owners, homeless people, George Washington & Howard University college students, and many families, all co-existing in one community. It's quite centrally located but still provides a taste of what life in DC is like outside the typical tourist spots.

About Us

I'm in my late twenties, studied physics and economics in college and have been living and working on economic issues at a think tank in the DC area for the last five years. I've travelled to Europe, South America, and Canada and been a responsible house guest of several friends who could provide references. I love to discover new cultures, and always make an effort to seek out the locals' haunts when I travel.

I've played tour guide in DC many times and would be pleased to provide a long list or targeted recommendations of restaurants, nightlife, galleries, parks, museums, walking spots, etc. in and around the city for you and your family/friends to enjoy.

Destination

My travel dates are flexible and I am open to any location, so please try me.
I've particularly enjoyed traveling to urban cities in Europe and South America where it is possible to go on a walk and absorb lively street scenes, sounds, smells and tastes.

Non-simultaneous exchanges and hospitality stays are sometimes possible too.
