Neighborhood

Victoria is a tourist destination for many people who arrive daily on the ferry from the US. The city has a distinct British flavour. Provincial Museum, galleries, theatres and shopping to suit everyone complemented with many restaurants featuring cuisine from all over the world make up the downtown core of the town. Walking along the ocean on Dallas Rd and Beach Drive, biking on the many easy paths which now extend all the way out to Sooke along former railway tracks, hiking forest trails starting 10 mins drive from the house (Mt Douglas Park), or taking one of the many truly memorable spectacular whale watching boats to photograph our Orcas are all easy exciting outings for all ages. Butchart Gardens is known worldwide and only 30 mins drive. A 5 hour drive out to the west coast at Tofino near the Pacific Rim National Park where the Pacific breakers roll in from Japan is another unique experience not to be missed. You pass through some old growth Cedar, Spruce and Hemlock forests where the trees are over 30 ft (10 m) in diameter. Victoria is also well known for its gardens and has been voted best North American place to visit by Conde Nast, travel magazine. The area is quiet, with a mixture of young families and retired people. Our home is 5 minutes walk to the university with its theatres, libraries and public transportation. Walking distance to parks and beach and near a village with shops, pub and ocean.

About Us

We are a retired professional couple, (or as much retired as my artist husband can be) and have travelled quite extensively with our children. We enjoy cultural activities and are interested in integrating with local people wherever we go. We have a son in Japan and would like to spend some time with him and his charming Japanese wife - they live near Yokohama. I am from Scotland and would enjoy any exchanges in the UK and anyplace in Europe. Australia and New Zealand have also been on our list as places to visit. Our plan is to spend our retirement participating in as many house exchanges as possible.

Destination

Dates are flexible. Yokohama or Tokyo in Japan. Scotland or anywhere in the UK.
